For as many people you find who imply the Republicans are uncaring about the environment, the poor, the elderly, etc.; you can find just as many people who say the Democrats don't care about security, the border, protecting America, etc.
The name calling just doesn't fix anything; it just causes more problems. Are there Dems and Repubs that fit those stereotypes? Why yes. Do most of them fit? Not even most of them fit in those stereotypes. I would say some fringes on each side fit those stereotypes. The people that lean sharply left or right are probably afraid the stereotypes are true of the opposite side and therefore more adamant in their positions.
For all the non-US personages who grace these forums; one must remember that the U.S. hasn't been screwing the rest of the world that long - before that it was the British, French, Spanish, Russians, Germans, Romans, Ottomans, Mongols, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, Greeks, Babylonians, Eqyptians, etc. etc. that spent many, many centuries doing despicable things to other countries.
The Yanks came from all these other countries and since we are only a few hundred years old (as compared to all the other countries) I could equate the U.S. as being a teenage that is emulating the bad behavior of it's parents.
Does that give the U.S. the right to be bad neighbors to the world community? Not by a long shot. I'm merely pointing out that some countries have some very old glass houses and therefore stones shouldn't be tossed about without care.
