I recommend Virginia, for several reasons. It's a beautiful state with the seashore and beautiful mountains only a few hours drive from each other. Overall, people seem to be pretty friendly, although traffic can sometimes be a mess. You'd be very centrally located to see a lot of the popular attractions of this country, such as New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC,Colonial Williamsburg, Applachian Mountains, Smokey Mountains, Shenandoah Mountains, (if you like mountains!), Disney World in Florida. There are beautiful beaches all up and down the East Coast. All these sites are about a one-day drive from Virginia, and also have easy train access. Depending on which season you come here, the weather is not real extreme. Maine could be frigid and freezing in the winter. Virginia's weather is not quite as extreme. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your trip!
