Of course it depends on what school if that matters to you. Are you planning on trying to do some traveling while you are here or will you just stay in one place. For weather purposes California or North Carolina if you want to stay out of cold weather. Virgina should have nice weather most of the time. If you are going to want to do some traveling and are interested in America's history Virgina would be the best place because it would be nearest to Washington D.C. and other major East Coast historical cities. For geographical beauty the western part of the country has more of that so California would be a nice choice.

In september, i have the chance of going to the US for a couple of months to study. I have a choice of a few uni's, and I was wondering which of these states you good people think are worth a visit? My choices are:
-North Carolina
-Indiana
-Ohio
-Virginia
-California
-Maine
-Oregon

Using this list only, I would go to either Virginia or California.   Virginia has major history points in close proximity.  California has multicultural history and great geography within relative closeness.   It also depends on the history/geography that you are looking for.  I personally would look at Northern Arizona University.   is cold and snowy.   A few short miles to Mountain Man history, Indian history, Wild West History, Meteior Crater, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, and other points of interest (all within 150-200 miles)

Oh good lord, if you are looking for snow, then yes, Maine is a good choice. You'll be sick to death of snow by the time you leave though!

It snows.   Snow Bowl is just outside Flagstaff and NAU.   One of our Major Ski resorts.

This would be my choice by a mile ... none of your other choiced would get a second glance. San Diego is one of the nicest places I have ever visited. It's a little expensive, but a college girl with an English accent should be able to manage to have some fun on the cheap.

I enjoy living in a city that has four distinct seasons, but when you are walking to class on cold windy days, snow will quickly become overated. Sep-Dec, Maine would be the only place from your lists that would guarentee the snow experience. I lived in San Diego when we first moved here, I would have a tough time thinking you could have a bad time there.

I would say to go study at the University with the highest level of expertise teaching what you are going there to learn.

Of the places you have mentioned, all of them should be lovely in the fall, although east coast fall tends to be more colorful than west coast.

Just me, etc.

You want snow...welllllllll then I strongly suggest you look into Laurentian University or Nippising University....good quality education and more snow than you (or even anybody in the US outside of Alaska can really imagine.....multiple feet of the stuff.

I recommend Virginia, for several reasons.  It's a beautiful state with the seashore and beautiful mountains only a few hours drive from each other.  Overall, people seem to be pretty friendly, although traffic can sometimes be a mess.  You'd be very centrally located to see a lot of the popular attractions of this country, such as New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC,Colonial Williamsburg, Applachian Mountains, Smokey Mountains, Shenandoah Mountains, (if you like mountains!), Disney World in Florida. There are beautiful beaches all up and down the East Coast.  All these sites are about a one-day drive from Virginia, and also have easy train access. Depending on which season you come here, the weather is not real extreme.  Maine could be frigid and freezing in the winter.  Virginia's weather is not quite as extreme.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your trip!

Mainly the state in general, no matter where i go i will get the same amount of credit for my course. I'm just looking for somewhere that has friendly people, nice places to go, cool things to see, so I was just wondering if people could recommend anywhere!

If those things are what you're looking for plus nice weather and very friendly people it's North Carolina you want!
It's right next to Virginia for a visit, they have snow in the mountains around Ashville and you could fly up to Boston for 4 or 5 days and see that area plus Maine.
I was stationed in Maine for 10 years in the USCG.
It's so cold there in the winter I saw a lawyer with his hands in his own pockets!
I was walking down the main street in Portland one January day and saw a dog stuck to a hydrant.
You don't know cold.
San Diego State?  You don't want to go to a community college.
That's what it is and funded by the state.

Maine is a nice state and yes in those months you will most likely get snow at some point. As some one mentioned you will also see the beautiful fall foliage. Portland is in the southern part of Maine, is that perhaps where the school is? It is a small but up and coming city. The people are friendly, the nightlife is great, good range of food choices, pretty ethnically diverse for a small city. Medical care is excellent < Portland Medical Center> if you ever need it. It is a big college city, so there will be plenty of other people from all over to mingle with. There is also a large Irish community and some good Irish Pubs, to give you a little " UK connection". You are about a 2 1/2-3 hours drive to Boston, which is another great city to visit and has a very active BDSM community.

Personally if the school is any further north in Maine than Portland I would probably take a pass. Much too cold and pretty desolate in areas.

Virginia is one of my favorite states. It has a lot to offer as others have mentioned.

Nah, they just dress funny, like Tre (  http://www.collarme.com/bdsm/v/98090/q/tres/rztl/23752/default.htm  )...

Virgina is your best call. San Diego is lovely, but it's 500 miles to the nearest city worth seeing. You'll need some perspective in the states- we think 200 years is a long time, but that 200 miles is not a long way.

Norfolk is less than 400 miles to NYC, and a daytrip to snow, beaches mountains and the US capitol. You'll see enough weather to know the seasons are changing, but not so much to be miserable...
