Thanks for the link.  i was especially heartened that Forbes did not consider either Jeb Bush or Hilary Clinton as viable presidential candidates.

As to McCain and Giulani, i am not yet ready to choose.  As for the other hopefuls from both sides, i am not familar with them, but what is heartening is that both the Dems and Repubs apparently will be seeking the moderate vote, effectively disenfranchising the religious right.

Might actually feel good to be a Republican again.

Rudy has yet to walk into the propeller as a national candidate. Let us cast our minds back......Rudy living in Gracie Mansion with his girlfriend as his wife starred in "The Vagina Monolouge's".....Rudy with his security chief Bernard Kerik, who turned out to be a huge fraud.......Rudy & his post- 9/11 security company cashing in on the tragedy........Rudy charging tens of thousands of dollars as a speaker post-9/11....the Manhatten DA's office which Rudy headed being sued by a wrongly jailed man for $50 million  for "institutional corruption"........look for the glory road to get very rocky for Rudy.

Not a chance. He's sympathetic to the neocon rallying cry and steeped in corporatism.

I'm looking for the mail man, a retired school teacher, or some retired farmer with bib overalls, a straw hat and corn cob pipe to step up to the plate - I guess I'm looking for a honest-to-goodness real American.

If I were to vote for a Republican next time around it would be either him or McCain. But the reason for that is the same reason I seriously doubt either one of them can get the nomination. They are too independent and do not tow the party line. Now McCain has seemingly sold his sole for 08 with the way he has been acting but Giuliani has been quite quiet.

I do not think he can get the bid. He is pro choice and has family value "issues" and is not the puppet type candidate the Republican money always backs.

A bit of wishful thinking on my part.....  You're most assuredly correct, and how sad that is.

No I wouldn't vote for him as an Independent.
He's anti- Second Amendment and won't enforce immigration laws.
Wasn't NYC an "asylum city" for illegal aliens under him?
That alone will sink his ship.

GOD HELP US ,If we get another Clinton in the white house! Wasn't 8 yrs of  THE WORLD LAUGHING AT AMERICA ENOUGH? Remember the US cole. the  bombing of the twin towers.. The criminals that were pardoned, before clinton left office. Not to meantion clintons bold disrespect for women. While Ms Clinton sang stand by your man. Say what you will about Bush but his daughters didn't walk into 100.000 jobs straight out of college. DO WE REALLY NEED Another bold face liar in the white house? By the way, you have to be a millionaire to enter the race. So no poor farmer. WE ARE OUT OF LUCK THERE!

I dislike Giuliani...he did nothing, the only reason he became "famous" or got the love of some New Yorkers was because of the tragedy of september 11...without that, they guy was nothing great...and on top of that, despite the fact that he was offered money by some foreign governments, he refused millions of dollars from the Saudi King for the tragedy and from some other Arab countries solely because the hijackers came from those countries...and hence the city of New York lost its chance of getting more money...yes some will argue that the city didnt need it, etc, but you can never have too much money for a city even a city like that. No Giuliani is just like a republican, a mini Bush....no thanks!

saskslave -> RE: Giuliani takes first step toward '08 presidential bid (11/14/2006 12:06:19 PM)

If I could vote in the US election, I would not vote for him.  He's pro-abortion, even pro-partial birth abortion, pro-gun control, pro-changing the 4000 year definition of marriage, and pro-illegal immigration.  When he was mayor, New York was an illegal alien sanctuary and Giulani actually sued the Feds in an effort to keep NYC employees from having to cooperate with the INS.

I think he would be good in the War on Terror but I have my doubts he would even win the GOP nomination.  Bush's support hasn't dropped because he is too conservative; it has dropped because he isn't conservative enough and that's affecting his support with the GOP base.

Even if Giuliani did win the GOP nomination, how electable is he?  The Old Media likes him (and McCain) now because they are liberal Republicans.  But once the election started, they would unmercilessly savage Giuliani.  Everyone knows that.  The Old Media doesn't even try to hide it anymore--they openly support the Democrats and demonize Republicans.

What about the South?  Bush swept the South in 2000 (Gore would've won had he won his home state of Tennessee), and swept the South (John Edwards lost his home state) in 2004.  It's hard to imagine a Northeastern pro-illegal immigration, pro-(even partial) abortion, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, liberal Republican who is on his 3rd marriage - sweeping the South.

Having lived and worked in NYC until 9/11 you couldn't be more wrong.

Prior to Giuliani you couldn't stop at a traffic light without being attacked by the 'squeegee-men'. You couldn't go through a tunnel without being accosted by the 'tunnel-bunnies'. Arriving in Grand Central Station by the time you made the 10 block trek to the Port Authority you would have been offered every drug know to man and sexual perversions that the Marquis de Sade didn't consider. (OKAY, not everything Guiliani did was good.)

Now NYC is vibrant and alive. Granted he may have 'sold his soul to Disney' but if you were there at the time, you didn't believe you'd ever want to take you kids or clients anywhere near 42nd Street. There was no booming real estate market. Most businesses were paying 'protection' money. NYC represents the most dramatic turn around of any city. Administrations going back to Abe Beeme. including Koch, tried their best to do something about all the issues that Guiliani fixed during his first term. His program started with enforcing 'quality of life' crimes. Petty, ignored, acts that were ILLEGAL. Remember back in the day, where something being illegal didn't require any 'feel good' sentiment to enforce the law?

Is he perfect? NO. But he's a close to that honest, hard working, simple man that Ranger desires. He is pragmatic, made mistakes, and will make more. He has a very liberal side. He supports the liberal position regarding abortion, gun control, and gay marriage. I part ways with him on immigration. But I still can't reconcile how being pro-illegal alien is liberal. I guess it is liberal to support ongoing exploitation. But I digress.

It should be noted that on 9/11 Rudy's term was in the process of ending. It was the scheduled day of the Major primary. His decision to not accept money from the UAA speaks to his convictions and should be seen as a reason to support him. Corporations are mocked because they contribute to both candidates to hedge their bets. Here we have a man who refuses to accept funds from a source that through complicity contributed to the reason that money was needed. No one living or working in the city at that time wanted any of that 'guilt money'.

I won't necessarily support or vote for Rudy Guiliani, but I respect what he did and what he accomplished when he had the power to do so.

He was an accomplice in the 9/11 attacks and suspiciously also surfaced after the London subway bombings.

I also understand that he has warm relations with KKKarl Rove and DicKKK Cheney, and has much of Iraq's stolen oil in barrells buried underneath a secret CIA prison. [sm=boohoo.gif]

I am not sure I would vote for him but this exactly is why I think he is a better candidate then most. If you actually study his history from when he was a D.A. thru him being major there is a long and tangible list of accomplishments that is better then most all talk and no action politicians.

He also is one of the rare think about solving a problem first then worry about politics second. These are my views which are more Republican therfeore I am with that party then I will adopt all things Republican because I want to be Republican. This is very rare from both parties.

If you do not agree with his views it is valid to not like him, but I think as politicians go he has my respect.

If called, I'll accept the nomination...if nominated, I'll campaign. As for financing, a $5.00 donation from each of several million patriotic Americans will pay the bills without obligating anyone to anything...except the betterment of America.
