I still can't imagine a kid wanting one, but at least if they make sure it's a kid who Believes in Jesus, it will only be a lame toy, not an offensive one.:)

That and what would you do with it? Put it in the Barbie corvette or mansion. Thats just weird. [;)]

Well, yeaaaahhhhh!  Isn't that the point?  Not much is sacred when it comes to my humor; I'm very 'equal-opportunity' about it all.

Hey, if ya can't have fun; why bother?  heh heh heh

When I'm bad, I'm very, very good!

If you dont believe in CHrist you should not be getting a Christmas present. Maybe I over simplify it but if the Marines are gathering toys to distribute to poor kids on Christmas to help them celebrate Christmas.  If they dont believe or are offended by Christ then they should not be celebrating Christmas and wouldnt be getting the dolls to begin with.
I cant imagine why a kid would want a christ doll anyways but thats another point.

...how offensive it is to put someone as sage as Jesus in an action figure... it really is ridiculous.

Now this I wholeheartedly agree with.

I have to say, why not? And offensive to whom?  They make films about him...

After looking at the cute dolls, they don't exactly take after Action Man, Buzz Lightyear, Woody or Barbie, they are quite benign, the worst thing about them is the horrific, creepy American voice, spewing.* I love you and I have an exciting plan for your life* and * The mountains and hills may crumble but my love for you will never end*....*Ewwww.

I have a set of Russian dolls.......maybe they are offensive to someone , somewhere,.......LOL.

Well, for some kids, I'm sure it would still be a welcome *plaything*.

*Hmmmm, nothing at all?..... or a male doll in a frock?* .........It might be inconceivable but some would find pleasure in it. Children don't tend to *load* things quite the way adults do.

Christmas is stocking up with whiskey, Cuban cigars and good books, smashing the TV to bits, putting on some soothing music and locking the world out until all the ersatz merrymaking and pseudo religious shit is over for another year.

Fuck the Christmas Nazis  wir haben Weisen, Sie sich amüsieren zu lassen.

I like the way this guy thinks!

As long as there's enough food indulgence too, I like it too.I fancy a picnic on my bed with all the sprogs and the sprogs's sprogs.......but then, what's new?

My Mum told me last week, that Xmas, for her, was a *feeling* and  nothing at all to do with *gifts*....or even giving.

The sprogs told me that Xmas, for them, was OUR dinner, on Xmas Eve, the Danish way, OUR tradition of *being together* and all the traditional food we have, all the smells, the sharing,  the giggles, the fun of * time spent together* and the crazy rituals.

I'm only too happy to have a *commercial-free *Xmas-time*.....Yeyyy, GO The Family!!*. None of us have a faith of any sort, but there's a real thrill in the traditional comforts and indulgences.

BUT .......Please let me find a stocking on the end of my bed, chaps...lol

Talking Jesus dolls may not be inherently offensive, but they're offensive as a donation to Toys for Tots.  That's a government-sponsored program to give Christmas presents to needy children.  Leave it to America to turn that into a low-cost opportunity for proselytization.

You don't have to be offended, but I am.

L&M, if it were (ME) that were involved with that program I'd MAKE SURE muslim kids got their share of "Talking Jesus Dolls!"
I'd even throw in some bibles all wrapped up and labeled as "Korans" for them.
I ***LIVE*** to "offend" people!

Lordandmaster -> RE: Toys for Tots refuses Talking Jesus Dolls. (11/17/2006 4:34:33 PM)

You have that right.  You're not a federal program.

I was referring to the.......* it's offensive to use Jesus' image as an action figure due to his *sageness** comment, by Julia, actually. That just makes little sense at all, to me.

As for Popeye's idea of *offending*..........In poor taste and bigotted..

I would say that some people hold Christ in high esteem and are simply offended to see such an entity demeaned to such a cheapened level.  One could say the same for a Ghandi action figure, or a Dali Lama figure, or a Buddha, etc.  Personally I can't stand the cheapening and commercialization we practice in this generation, with little to no respect or regard for those others hold sacred.

A Calif. co. offered to donate 4,000 "Talking Jesus Dolls" to the Marines' "Toys for Tots" program but was rebuffed on religious grounds.
The Marines spokesman said; "We don't want to have these dolls get into the hands of Muslim or Jewish children mistakenly." (paraphrase)
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Muslims or Jews celebrate "Christmas."

Correct me if Im wrong too but since when are the only children worthy of toys during the holidays the ones that celebrate christmas??

I dont know maybe Im stupid but  maybe that lil jewish kid that doesnt get anything for honukkah because his parents dont have money qualifies for the toys for tots program and Im pretty sure he wouldnt like getting a talking jesus doll!!!
