LordODiscipline -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/15/2006 5:01:33 AM)

Google is not a place where people "turn your nickname in" for it to record - It is an organization that uses software (such as "webcrawler") which scour the internet for new and altered pages of information. It does not target anyone or anything specific, just records unique strings of characters (numbers, letters, etc) and remembers where they were found... So, if someone puts a character string into the Google box od "windygal" it finds where that exact combination appeared when it was looking at the entire web at an earlier time and then lists those pages for you on the Google page. (That is why it pull up pages at times which no longer have on it what you are looking for, as it is not an active search when you hit "go", but a rememberance of strings of characters as placed in the box.) ~J PS: If someone does not want anyone else from discovering their postings using a psuedonym, then they really ought not to be on the internet. quote:
ORIGINAL: Windygal I am reading a book about Google, and they said you should Google your name often to see what comes up. I found myself which was disconcerting enough, but when I put in my NICK, things from this site and Bondage.com appeared. So if you are using a nick people know outside of the lifestyle, and someone types your nick into Google, they can find out you posted here! Windygal
