Windygal -> Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 4:30:03 PM)

I am reading a book about Google, and they said you should Google your name often to see what comes up. I found myself which was disconcerting enough, but when I put in my NICK, things from this site and Bondage.com appeared. So if you are using a nick people know outside of the lifestyle, and someone types your nick into Google, they can find out you posted here!

Windygal

Fitznicely -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 4:31:29 PM)

That's why I use one nick for BDSM stuff and a completely separate one for my vanilla goings on.

And NEVER my real name!

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 4:59:44 PM)

Hmm I thought this was common knowledge by now.

sophia37 -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 5:24:13 PM)

I check Mine to make sure its Me.
I also use a different name for vanilla things.
I really dont care who knows so I dont do much to hide who I am.

Celeste43 -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 6:23:21 PM)

This one is only used here and at b.com. So the only thing that shows up are posts from these places.

akisha -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 7:10:57 PM)

with this nick, nothing came up. the only thing that appeared from google of mine was a post regarding a different nick I use.

But really, if you put personal info on the net it's really not that hard to find. *shruggs*

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 8:38:51 PM)

Anyone that knows me well enough to know my nick here (and everywhere else) already knows what I am into.  If they really want to google me and see what I get into, its their own fault for looking.

mystictryst -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 9:16:35 PM)

I did not know this and appreciate being told... My sexuality is not my life therefore, I wish not for anyone who knows this nick to find out more about me then they need too.

Thank you for sharing this.

RedSavageSlave -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 9:23:21 PM)

After googling my name all I can say is .. its great to be a nobody [8D]

amalie -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 10:03:01 PM)

Well you would have to go through a LOT of amalie pages on Google before coming up with anything about me.

Not that i am trying to hide or anything.

Type in my professional name Amalieve however and it's a totally different story.

But like many of you have said:  who cares?

CrazyC -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/14/2006 10:28:29 PM)

You guys are teh only ones who know me as crazyc....now if any vanillas tell me i'll know where to look for the talkers. :P lol

Only one person knows my online nic and he knows exactly what im into.

Also the power of deniability. As shaggy said in his song... It wasn't me..

Priceless -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/15/2006 4:17:08 AM)

With about 17.500.000 results i dont worry to much about it.

canupleaseme -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/15/2006 4:20:08 AM)

lol my names come up loads on various different sites and its abaout half and half to whats actually me.   I found a really good website last week that anagrams whatever sentance you want to write into names and they are great for using as nicks on sites i wish i had found it ages ago [:D][:D]

LordODiscipline -> RE: Google and your nickname (11/15/2006 5:01:33 AM)

Google is not a place where people "turn your nickname in" for it to record -

It is an organization that uses software (such as "webcrawler") which scour the internet for new and altered pages of information.

It does not target anyone or anything specific, just records unique strings of characters (numbers, letters, etc) and remembers where they were found...

So, if someone puts a character string into the Google box od "windygal" it finds where that exact combination appeared when it was looking at the entire web at an earlier time and then lists those pages for you on the Google page.

(That is why it pull up pages at times which no longer have on it what you are looking for, as it is not an active search when you hit "go", but a rememberance of strings of characters as placed in the box.)

PS: If someone does not want anyone else from discovering their postings using a psuedonym, then they really ought not to be on the internet.
