Wildfleurs -> Thanksgiving Menu Plans - Calling all Foodies (11/15/2006 1:46:49 PM)

Hi Everyone,

I figured I would start a thread on peoples menu plans for Thanksgiving.  Because I'm working and having meetings up to the day before I'm keeping my menu simple, but trying an organic turkey out this year (I'm hoping it works out well!).  Anyways I'd love to hear from other people about what they are planning to cook, this is my menu:

Appetizers
Miniature Beef Wellingtons
Cheese and chilli dip
Shrimp cocktail

Main Course
Honey and Maple Brined Turkey with giblet gravy
Cornbread, sausage, sage, and apples stuffing
Green beans with mushrooms
Maple glazed yams with oranges and cranberries
Steamed Cauliflower
Fresh Croissants
Tomato basil soup

Dessert
Sweet potato pie
New York Style Cheese cake with balsamic strawberries and whipped cream

C~

Where are the tots? Sorry, Friends reference.

Other than that you accomplished making me very hungry. Very lucky guests!

I have to work this Thanksgiving so I cannot be with my family and help cook. I really like this holiday.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Thanksgiving Menu Plans - Calling all Foodies (11/15/2006 2:32:20 PM)

well, we're having both turkey and ham, not sure about the veggies yet, but i know we're having dinner rolls and i'm in charge of baking the desserts. i'm making lemon pie, a couple of chocolate pies, a Dutch Apple Crumb pie, a cherry pie, banana pudding and a peach cobbler.

windchymes -> RE: Thanksgiving Menu Plans - Calling all Foodies (11/15/2006 2:38:00 PM)

It sounds delicious, but I guess I'm just a traditionalist....

Appetizers:  Relish trays with green & black olives, celery & carrot sticks with dip

Main course:  Oven-roasted turkey with plain old sage stuffing that has bits of giblets in it
Mashed potatoes & gravy with subtle lumps
Candied sweet potatoes with melted marshmallow slightly burnt in the oven
                     Green bean/fried onion/mushroom soup casserole
                     Corn
Cranberry jelly, ceremoniously removed from the can by cutting off both ends and sliding upward
Pillsbury rolls, bottoms slightly burnt in the oven
Ice water in Grandma's special crystal glasses

Dessert:          Pumpkin pie with Cool Whip

Later on:         Turkey sandwiches on white bread with Miracle Whip
                      Pumpkin pie with Cool Whip
                      Beer

We're either ordering catering from somewhere (my choice), or getting the stuff for the basic dishes we like and cooking them.  It's just the three of us this year.

Well, I'll spend most of Thanksgiving at my brother's, so that'll take care of that, but we always cook/buy a bit no matter what.

Things that may be found in my abode come Turkey day:

1 or 2 slabs of Yellow Rose ribs
a ham steak, cooked with brown sugar, cinamon, and a bit of secret sauce
some turducken
golden, flaky buttermilk biscuits
cornbread dressing (with a bit of deer sausage if some is to be found)
roasted new potatoes with butter and pepper sauce
apple pie or lemon-chocolate pie with pecan and cool whip topping

Windchymes is unbeatable in this thread.  And this is why:  relish tray.
Thank you for bringing back memories of my dear grandma.  No meal at her house was complete without a relish tray.  Usually it consisted of pickles, celery and radishes.  But it would change from time to time.  In her opinion it was a sin not to have a relish tray.

Let us relish in the relish tray:

yum

I have it easy on Thanksgiving.  My mom does all of the baking.  I go over in the morning, help her and wash dishes as we dirty them.  It's enjoyable for me, it's immediate family, and some cousins who drive an hour to hang out with us.

Then later it's pumpkin pie (with tons of cool whip) and football!
