CrazyC -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/16/2006 12:31:04 PM)

Found the article very intreging and my Sociology teacher and i talking about it. We have to remember that many health issues were studied mostly on men and that health care was first based generally on these studies giving no concern that the female body might be diffrent. It makes me wonder. Yes, there should be some things noted of health care for males like prostate cancer. hmmm I wonder what the pin would be for that or would we give that cause a ribbon? lol

Man comes in the house with a gaping hole in his leg. Woman panics. "Oh My God, we need to get you to the hospital" Man says "Nah, it's just a scratch...it'll be fine" and refuses to go.

Woman says at the breakfast table "Eat a bowl of oatmeal...it's good for your heart" Man says..."Nah, this cup of coffee and these Yodels will be fine".

Woman says "You should quit all that smoking and drinking...they are bad for your health". Man says" Geez if I have to give up all the fun stuff I don't want to live that long".

Man has been coughing for a month and probably has pneumonia. Woman says "please let me make an appointment for you at the docs". Man says...."Nah, just a little cough....mix me up some more of that honey and whiskey stuff".

Man turns 40. Woman says "you really need to start getting annual prostate exams". Man says "Are you crazy? Ain't nobody sticking their fingers up MY ass".

Hmmmm....maybe it's because women are typically more concerned with health issues.

There are so many ribbons now that if you are socially sensitive you go out looking like Joseph's technicolor dream coat. I think I'd rather have prostate cancer than wear a ribbon.

Some men are going to be disappointed because its no longer the finger up the ass but a needle in the arm.

Thats the biggest sack of stereotyping, female chauvanist garbage i've heard in along time.

Its too obvious the health care system favors women over men.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/16/2006 3:04:13 PM)

It's because men face different choices than women.  If it comes to a choice between feeding the family and taking care of your own health, men choose feeding the family.  It's not that women wouldn't make the same choice if they had to, but they're presented with that decision much less often.

Fire away.

Well then I guess my ex was a female chauvanist as those are all conversations that we had over the years. Finding a cure for cancer would have been easier than getting him to go to the doctor.

Men die younger than women?
Gasp!!! when did this happen...oh wait, its always been that way.
The whole idea of men's health as opposed to women's health is stupid. The issue they should be focussing on is simply human health. But I am an idealist, and I am very much in the minority on this planet; I actually believe in equality of the sexes, real equality, not the shallow PC give me an advantage type of equality that so many pressure groups seem to want for their particular little demographic subgroup.

Are... you... kidding... me? When a guy goes to the doctor for whatever bloody reason, Doc's think "humm, he wouldnt be whining if there wasnt something to whine about, better safe than sorry and order up that bloodwork." Just in case, because you never know. Woman walks into the same doctors office, complaing of something saaaay, a welt or sore on her breast. The doc rolls his eyes, pokes at her breast for a few minutes, and says "eh, theres no lump, you must be perfectly fine."
Yes I'm a tad biased right now, as I had that particular conversation with my own doctor yesterday. I went in with red, hot swollen welts (that were not hives or insect bites), that were causing me immense pain. My family has a huge history of breast cancer, with a damn high fatality rate. And yet with all that, I literally had to threaten him to get an x-ray done. Where, by the way they did end up finding something. I am not a hypochondriac, I happen to despise most doctors, and avoid them at all costs. Its not like he had seen me 15 times in the past month. I came in with a legitimate reason to be concerned, and was treated like a damn four year old.  A friend (male) of mine sees the same doctor. He went in simply to get a health clearance for a job, and had a bit of a sore throat. Doc immediately does a throat swab, orders bloodwork, and reminds him that if he gets worse at any time to hurry back.
I realize this isn't the case with every doctor everywhere. I'd like to say the system isn't biased one way or another, although  thats a fat load of it. In my opinion, doctors are much more likely to take guys seriously, and order up that extra round of testing, simply because guys are less likely to go to the doctor overall. Seriously, you must be joking sissify.

No he's not joking. On his planet the doctors are all part of the conspiracy - you know the one, the one with the evil overlords from Mars....

meatcleaver -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/17/2006 7:48:41 AM)

The British government in a report on male health a couple of years ago said specific female health problems receive more research funding than specific male health problems which are vastly under funded. I tried to google but couldn't find the report but there seems to be a similar disparity in the US too from quickly looking.

I could spend the next hour trying to find the info but I've got to go and meet a healthy female who doesn't need any health research funding but does require some funding if I am to have my wicked way. Healthy women are more expensive than unhealthy ones (at least at first).

Zensee -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/17/2006 9:53:21 AM)

Trying to decipher Assclow's title for this thread "Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over". It seems to be saying that feminists will be dancing in the streets to hear that men have shorter lives. Confirm / Deny?

If there is any bias in funding for women’s health it could well be because female physiology is a damn sight more complex. There’s that womb thingy, birthing and lactation and then there's that little matter of menopause...

ZS.

SweetDommes -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/17/2006 10:11:37 AM)

I don't see that the female system is any more complicated - yeah, we have the womb, but the male plumbing is just as complicated with extra tubes and valves ...

I do know that for years males were the focus of almost every health study done, which is why the big fuss about female health happened - however, at this point, we've reversed the bias, and I see no problem with opening federal offices for male health.

And to sissify - multiple surveys have shown that men wait longer to go to the doctor than women for the same problems, and research based on medical records has supported this (showing that men report things to their doctors like 'well, I've felt off for about a year, but thought it was nothing' or 'that lump has been there for about 6 months' - whereas women are more likely to report 'I found this lump a month ago' or 'I've not felt right for a few weeks now and it's not going away' ... which shows that women go to the doctor sooner than men, overall).

meatcleaver -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/17/2006 10:17:43 AM)

I don't know what the international comparisons are but in the UK more men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer and cervical cancer together while prostate cancer receives a fraction of the research funding of both breast and cervical cancer. I remember this from a UK government report into male health.

This is not a whinge and I can't be bothered to find the source and you can believe me or believe me not.

Lashra -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/17/2006 11:07:09 AM)

I am a feminist and I truly believe Assclown just hates feminists and tries to flame them as much as possible. I think his moniker fits him quite nicely.

However I happen to like men and I am in no way dancing that males have a shorter lifespans in many cases. You are quite correct about the female physiology being a bit more complex then a males and therefore we usually need more medical care/treatment.

I am a believer in equality and so everyone should recieve good quality medical care regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation.

the feminist who isn't a lesbian and does like men.

LaTigresse -> RE: Stats Fems Can Blow A Load Over (11/17/2006 11:11:11 AM)

I am not purely femininst, am a lesbian, and there are quite a few males I adore. My son, his two sons, my brothers, etc etc etc........ I would rather they also have long healthy lives.
