Sorry to do a jump through, but a few things need to be said. After the Magna Carta people's rights were defined on paper and became sort of a guideline. There are other influences though, like religion. Early US law was ,odeled partly after English law, but not exactly. A Christian religion was the state religion, and the framers of our Constitution deliberately use the word Creator, not God. However, that didn't mean God was out of the picture. Even though the Constitution was not Christian, the people and their representative largely were. Therefore the law evolved in that 'venue' (for lack of a better word right now). The law used to recognize that your first loyalty is to God. Where the spouse comes in is that you swore loyalty to that spouse before God, as the church did the marrying then. So the law pretty much recognized that one's loyalty to the community was third on the list. Husband and Wife were treated as one entity in some ways. The law had flaws back then, and unfortunately I can't report much forward progress. It is anyone's guess why this does not extend to Parents, offspring and siblings. Now getting out of the legal aspect of this, a personal decision ? That is whole nother can of worms. Let's say I have a spouse. She killed a guy. I found out. The first and foremost question would be "Why did you do it ?". The answer that follows would have quite the impact on events yet to unfold. "He was going to take our kid's first string position at the highschool football team", well she better not say that. I would put the cuffs on fast, and not in a kinky way. I could never feel safe sleeping with a crazt bitch like that. No matter how much I love her, she has got to go down for this. On the other hand "The SOB was a friend of my Dad's and he raped me when I was 13". Got off scot free, well did, not any more. In a case like that I would not make the call, I would shut up. Then I would ask about the MO, and tell her "Hey, if there are any loose ends to tie up we gotta do it now, remember there is no statute of limitations". After that was taken care of I would grab her, look her in the eye and ask "Why the fuck didn't you tell me about this ?". I want answers, and this time, I want them all. At that point if I went to jail for not testifying against her, so be it, especially if it resulted in her getting off, and me only doing a few years for contempt, or even perjury. What I'm saying is after swearing loyalty to someone, it has got to take alot to violate that, otherwise it means nothing. T
