I would say that it depends. I will show respect to a dominant who is not mine, and if he asks me "Aqua, would you please go get me a soda?", then I will do so. Unless I'm currently at the bottom of a cuddle puddle. However, if he says "Aqua, go get me a soda" or uses another more familiar term, then I will remind him that I am not his and that I do not respond kindly to a lack of respect. I do not feel that I need to submit to all dominants all of the time. My submission to my dominant is complete and total but it is my gift to him because he earned it. It is not a gift I gave lightly, nor is one I am inclined to take back lightly, no matter what happens. But it something that he earned and others have not.

I would never be rude to someone. Civility is what can set us apart from the other animals(two and four legged) here on earth. ~when in Rome,,act like a Roman~ If someone introduces themselves as Master anything..I get the giggles inside. And my eyes can't lie..so I see problems looming there... But...hell no..I have one Master,and I do what He says. I think you should ask your Master what he wants you to do.

I've had more than one Dom here on CM demand that I call them "Sir". Personally, I consider that to be an earned title. I have no plans to begin calling every dominant Tom, Dick, and Harry Sir in the near future. [;)] However... under certain circumstances, you might hear me say "Yes, sir." or "No, sir." from simple courtesy and respect. It is not a title. zuma

Taking tongue out of cheek here, the hilarity is actually meant to answer the OP's question. There are a lot of people out there to whom it would be unwise to submit. At best it is silly and meaningless, and at worst it could be detrimental to your personal safety to encourage folk of this ilk I would have to ask the folks who feel that it is appropriate for all subs to submit to all doms whether they would agree to the demands of the self identified dominant....er, excuse me, TEH DOMINATE MASTER, portrayed in the above posts. Another potential issue is that some dominants are simply annoyed by displays of submission from subs who don't belong to them. I know that I am. I'm not talking about simple courtesy and graciousness, which is a desirable trait in anyone regardless of their D/s orientation. I personally find it inappropriate when someone displays overt submission towards me without bothering to check on whether or not I consent to participate in any kind of D/s exchange with them. I usually ask politely to be treated like a non scene person who does not participate in D/s, because as far as some random stranger is concerned, I am NOT a consenting participant in their scene.

I agree that the submissive partner should treat others in the manner in which their Dominant directs them. I try to be courteous as a rule. For some reason I would assume a dominant would more likely to try and exert their dominance over a submissive that wasn't theirs then a submission would try to serve a dominant they didn't belong to.

MajiksSlave, Just wondering what is the idea behind the feeling of offense you would feel if I were to address you as "Good evening slave" (as a title form)with a repectfull nod passing in the dungeon? To me acknowledging the possition with respect, reguardless of what the possition might be is a acknowledgement of truth and in no way means "I'm better than you" or "I out rank you", it simply means I recognize you as a slave, girl, boy, chosen pronoun, and honor your choice. and I am being honestly curious as to the why you would find it offensive?

I think it's more of an HNG thing. I've had issues with guys who start drooling on my feet by way of first introduction (literally at one play party!!!) and addressing me as Mistress, while doing everything but overtly jacking off. Actually I had that happen at a play party also. Ugh. That's icky and I don't want any. Maybe those experiences soured me, but I feel similarly icky when there's even a hint of something like that going on. I feel like I am being used as a nonconsenting object for someone else's sex fantasies, a cardboard cut-out Domme figure that they are setting up as a prop, and I dislike it a lot. I am here primarily to make friends and socialize, and even if I am interested in someone as a potential play partner, I want to talk to them like a normal adult human being first and see if there is some mutual liking and respect there before we jump right into play space. If I get the feeling that they don't like or respect me because they don't even care who I am beyond tits and a whip, I really don't wanna play. Hell, I don't even wanna be in the same room with them. Also as a dominant and an alpha, I feel intensely responsible for anyone who is "mine" on any level, anyone who looks to me for protection by offering their submission. It's not a reasonable feeling, but it is triggered by overt submission. I don't consent to take responsibility for people I don't know or trust, so I prefer not to relate to them as dominant or alpha. Just my personal views here.

I would be somewhat annoyed by someone "Good evening slave" to me, though it does sound better then "Good evening submissive". The reason I would be annoyed is because I prefer to be called by my name by most people in most situations. I do not feel that this makes me unsubmissive because I am is a submissive, so Aqua, my name, is in a way, a title of submission. However, in the context and respectful manner you have mentioned, I would probably just smile and wish you a good evening. If we encountered later I would ask you to use my name from then on.
