2:10 PM PST, November 20, 2006

A barrage of racial epithets unleashed by former "Seinfeld" star Michael Richards during a stand-up comedy routine drew condemnation from Richards' industry colleagues.

Comedian Paul Rodriguez, who was at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood on Friday when Richards responded to two black hecklers with the "n" word and profanities, said he was shocked by Richards' remarks.

Status: offline 		Just saw the outburst on Entertainment tonight.  It was a lot worst than what was reported on latimes.com.  Oh my, its sad when you get a glimps of what's really in the hearts and minds of some people.   But I can't imagine, why he would go on such a tirade knowing his career is tied so closely to his image.  Maybe its some kind of publicity stunt.  Who knows, have to see how this gets played out.   Either way, its just sad all around.

Hi Rosa. It is sad, and even if he just lost his temper over being heckled, there's no excuse for him to say what he did, and to do it, over and over....

Yeah and that fork up the arse comment, now that really hurt.  I've been angry at lots of people in my life, but I certainly can't see using such racist epithets

Status: offline 		I think that "Kramer" was breaking some new ground.......if he wasn't under the influence of the "devil's dandruff" during the taping of that performance.  Apparently Mr. George Carlin wasn't so thorough when he created his list of "things you can't say" on television or the radio.

The black community still hasn't spoken up about the issue to my knowledge.......but I believe that they'd support the cause of free-speech any day, whether or not the comments were aimed their way, or elsewhere.  I'd hate to think that black folks weren't able to stand some healthy reciprocation for the constant white jokes that the media is barraged with by African American comedians.  I doubt that the word, "nigger" should deserve such a media firestorm.  With racial/socio-economic epithets like "white-trash" still maintaining some level of acceptability in the cultural realm, this really isn't such a big deal.

I'll bet you my life savings (about ten dollars and a Wendy's gift certificate) that no such public ire would have been set off, if  "Kramer" had told "White Trash" jokes, or taunted some "hillbillies" in the audience. You know who I think that Kramer's comments pissed off the most?????  AFFLUENT WHITE PEOPLE.  Go figure.

As a redneck Carolina hillbilly with Appalachian lineage, I'm going to have to start being offended at more mundane, everyday things.........just because I damn well can.

Status: offline 		Tre, I agree in that I hope freedom of speech doesn't get knocked around; there is no freedom if people aren't allowed foolish comments like what Richards said.
 
I disagree that it "isn't such a big deal"; I can't just overlook such comments, but I am open to him being guilty of only a momentary lapse of reason. How he could prove such, I don't know.

Status: offline 		Actually in all seriousness, I'm not offended by the nigger comments or the cracker references. All it shows is Kramer has a bit of racism and the ole boy yelling cracker back is a bit racist as well.

All this was...

Two idiots going back and forth. One disrupts the show, and Kramer loses it, and let's his beliefs come out. The black guy then get's angry and let's his belief's come out. Two racists exposed. Funny shit to me.

Status: offline 		I had just watched the video on MSN before I hopped on here.  I am so shocked by this unbridled bigotry, not because I feel that it doesn't exist, but because it just sounds so depraved when it is spewed forth like this, unscripted, real life venom.  I hate it, I've heard it, I've lived it, hell when I lived overseas, I was one of the only white people I ever saw for days and days on end.  I had one incident with a person calling me a "white, American bitch"...  the guy happened to be drunk, and my then husband, almost put the guy through a tree.  It didn't bother me as much as it did the people I was with, because I just thought the guy was stupid.  They were horrified because they didn't want me to think that the rest of them felt that way. 

So for other white people to feel outraged by this - whether they are affluent or not - just makes sense.  For any color, race, religion, creed, sexual orientation, political affiliation, socioeconomic standing to be outraged...  just makes sense.  What Michael Richards said...  makes no sense...  it's deplorable...  shame on him.

Kramer can wait, I must find out the fate of the cheerleader and the world over the course of the next 85 minutes or so..
