I just wish they were over!!  Not having someone at holiday time is rough, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

You aren't. I use to love the holiday's. Yes, I have my kids and parents.  It just isn't the same not having someone you have that special emotional connection too, to share the holiday's with. You tend to see more and more couples around you, especially, at the holiday's and it makes you feel even more lonely.

We just have to focus on the good things, the things we are thankful for, like our health, good food, and the fact that we all have a warm safe place to sleep this season. [:)]

I am with you on this one cuddleheart; though for a different reason. This was the first year that I did not go back home for Thanksgiving and it really sucks big time.

Without a doubt this is the toughest time of the year. One needs to concentrate on what makes you happy and not compare yourself with anyone else. This is good advice year around. You are who you are and take comfort in that. Be true to your heart.

I won't pretend to imagine what you are going through sis but know this, you are always in my thoughts and prayers that you find the happiness you so deserve...I wish you lived closer..you could have hung out for Thanksgiving dinner if you don't mind sitting next to my ex lol...that way, you could have prevented me from throwing knives and forks at him..hehehe[:)] hang in there sis..

I have someone who I cant be with for the holidays, so I do feel your pain. It is kiling me to be away from Angel for our first christmas... I hd to miss his birthday, thanksgiving and I will be missing new years too.

I get that feeling sometimes too, but I still enjoy being with friends and family.

In Armistead Maupin's wonderful Tales of the City books, Michael, my favorite character, talks about wanting someone to buy a Christmas tree with.

It looks like I'll be spending Christmas with a group of people who will be singing the praises of and/or mourning the loss of the rat bastard who raped me when I was 14.

Christmas day is awful for me as it is the anniversary of my brother's death.  I find this such an awkward/uncomfortable time as people in the shops etc when making general conversation all ask me what I am doing for Christmas, isn't this a wonderful time of year blah blah blah. Just get it over with I say!

Don't you have family or kids?  I've spent many years without someone relationship-wise during the holidays.  But the focus of holidays has always been spending time with my family.

This is my least favorite time of year.  Everyone's supposed to be so fucking happy, and they know they're not, so they take out all their misery and disappointment on everyone else.

So, given the number of people who spend the holidays alone, or with family/friends as a singleton, why isnt there some means of, I dont know - getting all these people together for a kind of Christmas day singles/dating dinner?

I see a hotel, where you check in on the 23rd of December and leave on 2nd January. Where there is a group atmosphere, and people pair up if they want to, (or are too desperate, like me or are too drunk to care). And, importantly, no couples allowed!
