That's OK. Count me in as one who has as one of his annoying habits is to always apologize for everything.

Anyone else have nervous habits that drive others nuts?

(or have they been spanked out of you?)

i used to have a habit of grinding my teeth; however, Sir could hear it and it bugged him, so i had to stop. Probably for the best.

How do you stop grinding your teeth?
I do it in my sleep (and throughout the day I am sure) and now my teeth & I are paying the price.  I'd love to stop this bad habit so any advice would be appreciated.

confession time...I was out for dinner once with a friend and he kept on drumming his fingers on the table which is a habit of his, I did some breathing exercises, meditated, distracted myself and then I finally leaned over and 'smacked' his hand and told him to 'stop it damnit, you are driving me crazy!'.....laughs.

I don't know how to break the habit of grinding your teeth (that, too, is another one of mine). But, there exists dental trays that you can slip between your teeth to minimize the damage done due to the grinding. These trays can be custom made, through your dentist, to exactly fit your mouth. I've even seen some generic, over-the-counter types available in some drug stores, though I'm not sure how well they'll fit. The OTC version, though, appears to be much less expensive than the custome made article.

I bought one of the OTC ones for my husband. It had directions to boil it for a couple of minutes, let it cool to just warm, then put it in his mouth, and it adjusted to fit him pretty well. It has helped him a lot with the tooth and jaw pain he used to wake up with every morning, and helped him not chip his teeth grinding them at night. Cost $18.50 at Walmarts. (not meaning to hijack the thread, just like to share info that may help)

Another habit I have is, substituting words.. for instance, in a conversation someone might say;
"I saw Randy skating at the mall Saturday"(skating rink in the mall)
Then I will interject into the conversation "You saw Randy shaving his balls Saturday?!?", as though I misunderstood the person, which I didn't really. This drives my wife friggin nuts!

Heh, that would drive me up a wall too... One of my biggest pet peeves is interrupted or derailed when i'm trying to talk.

However, i do tend to tap, drum, vibrate, hum, whistle, and talk to myself... i'm a one-man army of irritation!

Family habit: we interrupt people. A lot. If we're talking about one thing, and someone else happens along and hears part of the conversation, they'll just jump in with whatever came to mind. To be honest, I never noticed (my whole freaky family does this... including the extended family), until I went on a trip with a group of people... they got very annoyed very quickly. I got bored talking with them. Heh, another habit of mine - I jump around a lot in conversations. But it all makes sense to me!!! lololol

I'm certain there are others, but to me, I'm fine.

Same here. I'm prone to all sorts of OCD behaviors; though I'm less fastidious about my rituals these days. And I talk to myself... as well as answer. My mother calls it overly imaginative. Others call me a loon.
