Renorei -> Favorite kind of alcohol? (11/23/2006 7:48:09 PM)

I know very, very little about alcohol but I've recently realized that I like wine...a lot.  My current favorite is Lambrusco Riunite, a very soft (and cheap LOL) red wine.

What about you?

One of my old submissives used to ask me if I wanted a glass of wine and served me Riunite.  I finally brought a nice bottle of Australian Cabernet over and poured her a glass and she had an epiphany and realized that Riunite really does not deserve to be called wine.  I have had a lot of different wines from all over the world since my parents fancy themselves to be wine snobs.  In all honesty, paying $250 for a bottle of wine does not make it good.

Then I was married to somebody who grew up with friends who owned vineyards and who travelled all over the world.  She taught me how to appreciate wine and would bring back estate bottled wines from Australia, France, Spain, etc.

Not really a white wine drinker.

I got in to drinking Martoonis for a while.  Half a bottle of vodka, think about vermouth, pour myself to bed.

Then realized my liver wouldnt tolerate that for very long.

I have eclectic tastes.  I recently discovered the joy of sipping expensive silver tequila.  I like single malt on the rocks.  Lo carb daquiris and martinis.

Not much of a beer drinker despite brewing it endlessly for years.

Could be wrong, but there you go.

Sinergy

Alcholol and I do not mix. The last time I had a drink I was 15; I drank a bottle of Jack...never again...

if I could drink, I would have to stick with Jack though...I really like how it tastes

I like the taste of marsala in italian cooking.

mistoferin -> RE: Favorite kind of alcohol? (11/23/2006 8:15:42 PM)

I'm not much of a drinker but I do enjoy a drink on occasion. A nice imported beer on a hot day. A vodka tonic made with Ketel One or Grey Goose. My new favorite though (thanks twice) are Frozen Toasted Almonds....mmmmm......like a dessert in a glass!

Lorelei115 -> RE: Favorite kind of alcohol? (11/23/2006 8:26:34 PM)

To quote Ron on another thread like this posted not too long ago... "Whatever's within arm's reach."

*grin* But honestly, Bailey's on the rocks is a fav, and I adore Reisling and Pinot Grigio... pretty much any white wine. Also like my own little concotion of raspberry vodka and polar orange dry soda. Yum. [:D]

love Margaritas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  YUM!!!

DomKen -> RE: Favorite kind of alcohol? (11/23/2006 8:34:28 PM)

I don't drink a lot but I used to be a bartender and developed a preference for the good stuff.

Single malt scotch (20 years old by preference) straight up. Glenfiddich is the best one that I can easily find. There are some very hard to find varieties that make you want to never drink anything else but they also can run double the price of a bottle of Glenfiddich which is already quite pricey.

Reposada and anejo tequila straight up. The best brands rival the better scotches. I still buy cheap blanco tequila for making margaritas for parties and such but I otherwise never drink it.

Good estate red and white wine. I go into a good wine store and find the salesman who knows what he is talking about and let him recommend something he has in stock. I rarely spend more than $40 on a bottle of wine and usually get something my wine snob friends enjoy.

My brother brews his own beers and I will have one of his on occasion but otherwise don't drink beer at all.

My restaurant is having an inservice next week thats featuring a lecture and a small batch bourbon tasting hosted by Booker Noe. How cool is that? I'm going to bring along a bottle of Booker's Bourbon for him to sign. [:D]

Yuengling if I am being social.  JD on my birthday and Rose Tequila kept ice cold in the freezer.  Agent Orange if I want to get blotto ~ I remember asking the bartender what was in it, but I forgot the answer somewhere between the time I asked and the next morning.  I like local wines with dinner occassionally ~ Pennsylvania makes some tastey wines that do not give me a headache.

You drank a bottle of Jack??? And at age 15???

Geez... you're freaking lucky you're even here to tell us about it... unless you are talking about a half-pint bottle or one of those little airline bottles... [;)]

At age 15, I drank almost 2/3rds of a bottle (quart) of Old Grand Dad (it was the only crap we could steal that night) and was sick for a freaking week. I've never puked so much since, and I couldn't even smell whiskey without gagging for years afterwards.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Favorite kind of alcohol? (11/23/2006 9:37:15 PM)

I have drunk just about everything in my life, but now, in my experienced years these are my preferences:

For "beer": Guiness Draft (I don't really consider it "beer" at all, but a liquid, alcoholic bread.  Any German dobblebocks will suffice in a pinch or if I'm on the Continent during the right time of year).

For hard spirits, Maker's Maker is best.  And it's made (almost) locally.  Fairly expensive, but very smooth.

For wine, I like German white's, especially anything made with the Riesling grape (anything graded as Spätlese, Auslese or better).

Emperor1956 -> RE: Favorite kind of alcohol? (11/23/2006 9:49:23 PM)

I'm a whiskey guy.   I love scotch, taught myself to drink it when I was 22 and I realized that ordering a rum and coke or a Jaeger shot didn't cut it in the business world, and learned to really like the good stuff.  NEVER to excess, of course.

But since I've been "maturing" (like any good spirit) I find I like bourbon a lot (Woodford Reserve may be nectar, and Blanton's is ambrosia in a bottle) good Irish whiskey (Powers is my everyday, and Black Bush for special) and I'm tasting some of the reinvigorated American rye whiskeys that are being bottled.

I'll drink vodka martinis (hell, I'll drink ALMOST anything)  and gin and tonics in the summer.  I love wine, but the way I see it, any jerk with money can make a good $100 bottle of wine.  An inspired winemaker can make a good $10 bottle.  I had a career where dinners 1-2 times a week were required, and the wine was never less than $50/bottle.  I grew up in a resturant consulting family.  I know good wine, but I thrive on good cheap wine.  Uh...that isn't Lambrusco, by the way...but no disputing of tastes.

One of the few things I don't drink is Tequila.  I don't get it.  And I've had the reposados, the anejos....Saturday I was at a tasting where the stuff being poured retailed for upwards of $70 a bottle, the server/ "guide" was this gorgeous Mexican woman, and I'd have spent all afternoon with her...but we were drinking this stuff that just tasted spoiled to me *SIGH*.   And no thank you, I don't eat the worm.

I hear you about the JD - a group of us had a wild night in nursing school - just hanging at the piano bar.  You know that kind of place - like Cheers except the greeting was more like "The Nurses Are Here!!! - mixed way too many drinks .... beer (Molson's Canadian), rye and coke, Tequila Paralyzer (Blanco Silver please not Jose), the boys at the bar kept us well supplied with a fairly constant supply of shooters  ... chocolite chips, sex on the beach, blow jobs ... then some how my old buddy jack got into the action.  Thanks to a good samaritan I got back to my nurses res alive and un harmed.  But Jack- he aint allowed round here any more!
