I have an IQ of over 150 as well.

The Intelligence Quotient test is not a measure of knowledge, rather it is a measure of potential. Someone may know a lot and not have a very high IQ, or someone may have a very IQ and not know a lot (sometimes dependent on the subject).

ok so i talked to some one last night and they said that i was too much of a know it all....

eeeeeep...that hurt my feelings

i try so hard to say 'imo' or 'imho' or to say in 'my experiance'...

anyway the reason i am writing is i guess i want to know if i come of know-it-allish and snobby...and what i can do to better...

and also if that is a bad thing and why...

Im re-posting here because I just realized that all I did was rattle on about my own view without answering your question...

From what I have seen of your posts, I would say you actually come off as what I would consider the polar opposite of know it all.  I have seen you at times very humble in your answers and quite gracious.

And I give you credit for even putting the question out there.  Theres no way in hell, I would open a thread asking people what they thought of my style. lmaoooooooooo

Ditto... not that it's done me any particular good.  Ultimately, all an IQ test measures is the ability to score highly on IQ tests.  Even Piaget recognized this.  When asked by a reporter to define what intelligence is, he famously replied "It is what my test measures."

The technical term for a "know it all" is a polymath. It has nothing to do necessarily with mathematics although math ability is obviously an important component. A polymath is usually distinguished from a genius by breath of knowledge. For example the modern exemplar of genius was Richard Feynman. Feynman wrote several books where he explained how stupid he was about everything except physics.

The classic polymaths are Thomas Jefferson and Leonardo Da Vinci. Where Feynman is narrow and deep they are said to be broad and deep.

Of course most of this is nonsense. Poor stupid narrow Feynman tells stories about getting his paintings exhibited, playing at Carnegie Hall, speaking Chinese, and serving on Presidential policy commissions. Not bad for a man who claimed to be limited to just physics.

On the other hand no contemporary of Jefferson including Jefferson himself thought that he was in any way the intellectual equal of Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson was in awe of Hamilton. Similarly Da Vinci's modern reputation would have astounded 15th Century Florentines. They (and I) considered the true polymath and genius of the age to have been Filipo Brunelleschi. How could history have gotten it so wrong?

You see everyone gets all this stuff wrong all the time. So don't let it bother you if some doofus thinks you're a know it all.
