There are some real wing nuts out there cuddleheart...and welcome back it is good to read you posts again.

LadyEllen -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 1:24:14 PM)

How can anyone even offer to give a baby away?

I'm going to assume for my peace of mind that this was either someone with some psych problems (PND?) or an FBI trap of some sort.

A) It's probably a hoax and B) If it is true, at least they are trying to give it a good home.

Adoption boils down to "Hey, you can have my baby - after you pay a bunch of fees to the adoption agency and sign a bunch of forms and jump through a lot of hoops." Really it should be "Free to a good home." Granted you've got to have a screening process for the good home, but other then that, free to a good home.

LadyEllen -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 1:55:22 PM)

Well, the adoption process (in the UK at least) is pretty screwed up. Last I heard, youre looking at GBP 30k for all the approvals and surveys etc, which take a number of years to complete. And then two weeks ago, we had some idiot on TV lawding how great adoption is and how more people should do it. All well and good if you have the money and your extended family and friends dont mind being investigated, as well as yourself. Meanwhile, unwanted kids are in care, growing older all the time, and - this is the best of it - often receiving the same abuse in care which an adopter must prove they dont do!

Of course there have to be checks - but hell, if you have kids of your own no one comes checking you, your family and friends and expecting you to fork out thousands of pounds to prove youre in employment, have no criminal record and so on!

Hey, I think giving away kids is a great idea!  If we allowed it to happen, I'm sure we could drive prices right down.

I am outraged at the return policy.  This guy sucks at customer service.

cuddleheart,

If it is a serious add in some ways giving a child away to a good home is better than some of the other actions that many "parents" have taken in the recent years.

I am not condonming such an ad, however; think about this.

How would this be any different than putting a child up for private adoption?

How would this be any different than giving the child to a family member, friend, ect?

How is this any different than walking into a hospital and simply leaving your child?(which is now totally legal)

untamedshysub -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 3:45:04 PM)

There were days I wanted to give mine away lol but they are grown now and we all made it in one piece. Do not judge people you do not know the cost of living in San Diego is one of the highest in the nation. They want to give the child to a family that can take care of it without going through the courts so be it.  Because the child would go into the system before placed and the parents dont want that I say pray for a happy outcome and do not be so quick to judge others.

I have four beautiful sons and could not imagine giving one of them up no matter what!!! No matter how difficult things get they were a blessing from God...I don't understand some people...they are quick to make the baby, they have no trouble doing that...but to care for it..that's another story

All I know is I took mine home after they cut it out of me, and Ive been feeding it ever since.  Now, no matter where I drop it off,  it finds its way home.

marieToo -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 4:18:12 PM)

Seriously, Cuddles, it's probably some publicity stunt for something.  Or if its really the case, the kid is better off without these people as parents.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 4:19:34 PM)

Because in each one of your other scenarios, the person can be reasonably sure that the baby isn't going to end up in the hands of a psycho.

When did abandonment of a child become legal?

RosaB -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 4:27:32 PM)

It is legal to drop off newborns, at safe locations. This law came about after so many young woman were leaving their babies for dead after giving birth.

I had no clue.  I thought it was a chargeable offense.

In Pennsylvania it's good up to 28 days.  (as in a 28 day old infant)

edited to add info

feylin -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 4:36:23 PM)

I agree.  I think it takes a great deal of courage and strength to give up a child for adoption.  It is easy to say "you made it, now deal."   Inarguably, the making is a whole heck of lot easier than the dealing....and, actually, oftentimes more fun, no?  (At least with regard to immediate gratification.)

No, its not ideal.  Yes, people should take more responsibility.  But it does happen.  I never had children, but I knew at 12 that I never wanted children and the choices I make reflect that decision.  Stuff happens, though.  Kudos to the person who realizes and then admits that someone else could raise this child in a healthier and more loving environment and sweet blessings on the home of the people who want to share it with a child they cannot have on their own.  The alternatives -- which certainly must outnumber the happy endings? -- are the truly sad and heinous situations.

That being said, the ad stated that the child was kept in a closet which made me think that it was either a hoax to create as much reaction as possible, or a person at the end of their rope.  Neither of which is suprising.

sharemeuk -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 4:40:36 PM)

the checks to be approved for adoption are free, unless you choose to go down the route of adopting from abroad, in which case you foot the bills for all the social service, health, criminal etc checks, which comes to approx £10k plus whatever expenses are incurred by the actual process of adopting from your chosen country, ie flights, stay there, 'donation' etc. Either way checks should take approx 1 year, although more time may be needed if any probs arise/your local soc. services are as understaffed as the rest of them in the UK. What time it then takes for a child to be places is very much the biggest variable..

"often receiving the same abuse in care which an adopter must prove they dont do"
I have to say that that statement is based more on a reactionary knee-jerk than empirical evidence. Of course there are cases of abuse within the care system, but I think to suggest that they happen 'often' is pretty insulting to the foster carers who do their damnedest to give these kids as solid a foundation as possible, and many have to spend out of their own pocket to do so.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Oh, This Makes Me So Mad!!! (11/25/2006 4:45:07 PM)

how about you "think" before you sleep with someone and live up to your responsibilities? everyone looks at adoption and or/ abortion as a way to put your responsibility onto someone else...
