Knock, knock.  Is anybody home?

Top of page repeat:

And here we go with a unique quartet:

Helen Hayes
Rita Moreno
Audrey Hepburn
Whoopi Goldberg

Yes, you might find two more names that you think could be on this list, but there IS something that makes this a totally unique quartet.

More clues..... the commonality can be achieved by any performer.  To date, 6 men have achieved the same commonality. Helen Hayes was first of all 10 (or 12 - see first hint above) performers to achieve this.

Hiya Lance,

This looks like one of those Oscar, Emmy, Tony type things.

They have all won all three?

Hmmm,

I can only think Grammys as well, or instead of one of the awards.

I will say all four and wait for the clue.

I'm really not a theater person.

Yes, these four women all won all four of the awards: Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and Emmy.  (How's that for a quartet within a quartet?)  Barbara Streisand and Liza Minnelli have both received all four, but each won three and received one of them as a special (non-competitive) award.

Go ahead, Mr. Wood.
Regards, Mr. Hughes - LOL!

Let's add endangered.  The hippopatomus is THE most dangerous land mammal, but the rhinocerus is endangered, making my answer:

most dangerous of the endangered sharks
most dangerous of the endangered turtles
most dangerous of the endangered birds
most dangerous of the endangered land mammals

Thanks, Ebony.

Keeping with the quartet (4th largest, 4 awards) within a quartet theme:

Atlanta
Chicago
Denver
Philadelphia

Alphabetical order has nothing to do with commonality.  It is in alpha order because what I cut and pasted was in alpha order.  Maybe the first hint will be to re-write the quartet in the order in which they came to have the commonality...... Oh, .... that's a hint isn't it?  Again, a unique quartet.
