Well, no. Besides, that's not got any quartet within a quartet about it, does it?  Your guess is not about a unique quartet.  Your guess couldn't be cast in the terms of the order at which time they achieved the commonality.  Etc.  Please match your answer to the clues!!!!

Okay,

1966 Chicago
1967 Philadelphia
1995 Denver
1999 Atlanta

Actually, the commonality has nothing to do with dates.  Just as the performers had 4 awards, each of these cities has four things that join them into this quartet.  I could have listed the dates for each woman as the date when she aqcquired her fourth award.  So here, too.  NOT an award, but a similar binary type-of-thing.  Either you have it or you don't (for each of the four items that make up the commonality.)

Does each have a mint?

Nope.  Really, dc, I expected much better from you.  In your defence, I'll wager you didn't read bottom of previous page.

There are FOUR related things that each must have to qualify to be in the quartet.  Chicago has never had a mint, Philadelphia has had a mint way before 1967, y'think.  The earliest date that any city could've been on this list is 1946.... and that's a mighty tall clue. Gee, I wonder if that might be a hidden clue...  Almost enough to give it away......

OOPS!  I guess I waited too long to edit.  "Defence" is the British spelling of the America word "defense."  In turn, "defense" is a hidden (very well hidden) clue.

Just a shot in the dark here, but does each city have 4 professional sports teams? (such as football, basketball, baseball, and hockey?)

igor:  Dead on target. I don't EVER want to be "in your sights" whether dark or not.  LOL!

9 other metropolitan areas have all four, but ONLY these 4 have the four teams play IN the city - not the suburbs.  Hidden clues: tall = basketball; defense = all of them.

Your turn.

I must have had the "night vision " on!

This is such a wild bunch of contestants that these four should be pretty easy. Not a quartet in quartet though.

flat
knuckle
pan
shovel
