They're four of the five mother sauces?

Mother Sauces - Also called Grand Sauces. These are the five most basic sauces that every cook should master. Antonin Careme, founding father of French "grande cuisine," came up with the methodology in the early 1800's by which hundreds of sauces would be categorized under five Mother Sauces, and there are infinite possibilities for variations, since the sauces are all based on a few basic formulas. Sauces are one of the fundamentals of cooking. Know the basics and you'll be able to prepare a multitude of recipes like a professional. Learn how to make the basic five sauces and their most common derivatives. The five Mother Sauces are:

Bechamel Sauce (white)

Veloute Sauce (blond)

Brown (demi-glace) or Espagnole Sauce

Hollandaise Sauce (butter)

Tomato Sauce (red)

NEW QUARTET:

Why is it that on all other nights during the year we eat either bread or matzoh, but on this night we eat only matzoh?

Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of herbs, but on this night we eat only bitter herbs?

Why is it that on all other nights we do not dip our herbs even once, but on this night we dip them twice?

Why is it that on all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but on this night we eat in a reclining position?

Passover?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/21/2010 11:20:43 AM)

And, if dc wants a more specific answer:  Ritual questions asked at the Passover Seder (meal) by the youngest male. He asks them of the oldest male.  ("Male" here is defined as having been bar-mitzvahed.)

edited for tense. LOL!

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/21/2010 12:23:57 PM)

Passover it is. Your turn, Shahar.

And thanks to Lance for the elaboration!

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/21/2010 4:40:37 PM)

Good!  I didn't have one ready to go anyway! LOL!

And (upon further research) Lance has to BLUSH (big time.)  The questions are ANSWERED by youngest child (gender not taken into account, nor age.)

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/22/2010 7:08:05 AM)

Does Shahar know it's her turn?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/22/2010 7:31:22 PM)

Pick me!  Pick me!  I have one!!!  LOL!

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/22/2010 7:35:04 PM)

And we wait until when?

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/24/2010 12:04:48 PM)

Or, since she's around and posting, perhaps she can indicate whether she's working on a quartet or chooses to pass it off.

ShaharThorne -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/24/2010 5:10:52 PM)

Sorry, was busy IRL.  can Tim pick the next quatret for me?

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/24/2010 5:16:25 PM)

OK. I choose Lance's ready to go quartet.

What is it, Lance?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (3/24/2010 6:57:24 PM)

Thanks, MM

Scopas
Bryaxis
Timotheus
Leochares

This is a unique quartet!  In other words, you might think there are other names that could be added to the list, but the particular commonality that I have in hand is four and only these four.  Google WILL solve this instantly by the way, so try to do some research without typing in all four names at once. LOL!
