BitaTruble -> Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 6:43:52 PM)

OK, someone made a comment on another thread and used the term 'higher kink levels'. I asked him to explain what that meant as I've never heard this term before, but he chose to ignore my question. What, exactly, is a higher kink level? Who determines what's higher and what's lower? Did I miss another memo or something?

I mean, from my perspective all kink is the same 'level' but there's some stuff you don't like and some stuff ya do and certainly, there are things with a higher risk (of injury) factor but I don't see any one thing as being 'above' another thing. Is it based on how many people would do something, so if simply everyone is in to, say flogging, that is lower on the kink scale than people who are into, oh thumb cuffs, so thumb cuffs are a higher level of kink than flogging? If it's based on squick factor, how is that anything other than purely subjective?

Clues please? (Or someone can just send me the Big Book of Kink - in pdf if ya got it.)

Celeste

It's like "Minty Fresh Breath"...no one really actually really knows what it means.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 6:48:43 PM)

Really, Celeste, I would have expected better.

Then again, I have passed you in post count, so I can understand your difficulties.  We were all there once, we understand.

Essentially, anytime someone wants to make themselves feel better, they decide to assign a value to things they do, and assign a lower value to things other people do.  This makes them feel good about themselves.

Having a higher kink level is exactly that.  "I like Roman Showers, I'm better because you only like amputation."

See?  Does it make sense now?  Good girl!

Yours,

benji

Hey! My post count is higher than your post count and therefore my kink level is higher too, this is not rocket science after all!

RedSavageSlave -> RE: Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 6:56:35 PM)

sophia37 -> RE: Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 6:59:20 PM)

Im in lower kink level mode, at 390 posts. Looks like it takes time to become a serious Kink master! I have been seriously outpaced here.

mnottertail -> RE: Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 7:03:58 PM)

Think about it
There must be higher kink
Down in the heart or
Hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is wasted time
Look inside your heart,
I'll look inside mine
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair
We will walk the line
And try to see
Falling behind in what could be

[CHORUS]
Bring me a higher kink
Bring me a higher kink
Bring me a higher kink
Where's that higher kink
I keep thinking of

Hola Jesuh Hola Jesuh, we got some higher kink.......

Maybe just a clumsy way of describing the intensity of the experience?
Or maybe higher kink levels is just a way of measuring how badly you need it :)

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 7:10:21 PM)

Humm...maybe he/she meant that they had an increase in kink knowledge or usage and thus felt with their ever increasing interests that it was in a sense a higher kink level for them..That they were more open to volume of kink rather than "higher" kink?..ending this with Sinergys sign out..:0)....Tempting

You know you're famous when a simple reference to your sig line tells people the poster could be wrong.

Or maybe it just says you're wrong a lot.

mp072004 -> RE: Higher Kink Levels? (11/29/2006 7:21:07 PM)

It's probably, like Smythe said, an awkward way of describing a degree of intensity in kinky activities. I think it is useful to make comparative statements about the degree to which we engage in a particular activity, but the language "higher kink level" doesn't seem like the best way to do it. We can agree that a stroke with a thick cane that jars the top's arm on connecting is more intense than a hand spanking that doesn't cause the top's hand to tingle, can't we? We might, alternatively, say that a male crossdresser who can pass as a woman when dressed engages in crossdressing more intensely than a man who wears feminine panties. This doesn't mean that less-intense play is inferior to more intense play, or the other way around, but it does indicate that less intense play is different from more intense play, and that a spectrum of intensity may be understood in a type of play. The different intensities that I outlined are probably what the person Celeste referred to considers "kink levels".

Except when it's DONE by rocket scientists! So my post count counts triple...no, quadruple, 'cause I know how to get you into orbit.

Maybe they're refering to what a lot call "edge play"? Or, perhaps "High Protocol"? I've never heard the term before, either.

That's possible, I suppose but it's not really the feeling that I got from the context of his post. I think he is honestly amazed that there was such a high squick factor to the posts in response to his OP. But, I don't know for sure and he wouldn't elaborate.

This makes more sense to me given the original post to which I'm refering. He is fairly new to BDSM and may have come in with preconceptions that everyone is into what he enjoys and when they weren't, he got surprised. I think his idea of 'level' is the more it grosses people out, the higher it is. I guess I just don't see things that way, but don't begrudge his view.
