Personally, I don't understand people under 35...but there is good and bad in everyone...every age, race, religion...

Does that mean a person at 34 makes no sense but suddenly on their 35th birthday they do?

Curious, I was with a dom in his mid 50s and he had less integrity than my Daddy who is in his early 40s... Maybe the age has nothing to do with it, as I remember you complaining about the same issue with older dominants? Perhaps you are just picking them wrong?

i like your poem and true words were never spoken,
but i guess as i grow older i have come to understand how important it is too keep your word, even if you dont care for the person anymore if you make a promise, a bonding of words you stand by them, and you follow though, and i guess also because i am getting old even as i write this, i see less follow though on the part of young,  those of the Me generation or the X generation.
take care and be safe

Age has nothing to do with it.  It's what your taught as a child.  If you feel it's the younger ones it's `our` generation who raised them.  I'm thankfull that most of mine learned fairly well.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.. "As you're getting older you are becoming more aware of the importance of some things.." It's part of your self growth...when you think about it, you're not taking a jab at younger people..just the way of the world in general.

Those attributes you mentioned are really important, I agree. I guess all we can do though is make sure we have those qualities ourselves and try our best to not let the shitty aspects of life get to us too much.

Dear slavejlb, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I can agree with a lot that has already been posted.  As far as 'old people smelling funny'--It "Depends." (Pun purposefully made with a lot of humor).

The issues with honor, standing by your bond/word and the like, I have to agree with SirDiscipliner69's statement.  We learn first what values are, when it comes to your word, reputation and respect.  It also goes further on what we're exposed to.  From Television and movies which paints those who break promises and have no values as heros; then this will be something kids will set a standard by--as well as their peers in life.  It is what society/civilization tolerates.  And, unfortunately, we can look at politics, government, work ethics and in religious realms; we're dealing with individual people.  Unfortunately, not all are shining examples of what should be considered heros, idols and or examples.

I also see in my mind's eyes; through my own life's experiences; that age is nothing--the spirit of intent in people is everything.  As a child, I believed more easily and trusted so completely.  As a teen I started to question adults and did not trust them so easily or trusted completely.  As a young adult I trusted myself and believed in myself completely.  As I aged, I started to trust others a bit more and believed in others.  Where I am now, I don't trust or believe completely as I once could.  I see in my mind's eyes, that I had time and energy to trust and believe in others and when trust was betrayed or belief was flawed, I could count on myself to pull through on my own and count little on external support.  I am a lot older now--but, I'm not put into a position of having to trust and or believe others, such as depending on others to care for me.  So, I can be selective in believing and or trusting others still.  There will be a time, like when a child, that I will become depending on others--I will have no choices.

So, live fully before the ability to believe and trust people no longer exists.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

You know, you generalizing my generation in the way you do, makes me want to say.....older people are judgemental and other sweeping statements like that.
It is somewhat insulting to be brutally honest.
I will not make statements like that however, because I see each person as an individual.

Say, that "older generation" didn't happen to vote for the most dishonest presidential administration in American history, did it?

What a sorry state of affairs this world is, how the most of the young today do not know the importance of standing by their words. I don’t know about most of you but I was raise during a time, when a person was taught that their words were their bonds. And he is only as good as those he keeps.
You would think someone who calls them self a Dom would know and understand that even if he is under the age of forty.
One would think that if a Dom made a promise whether it be big or small that it would be important for him to keep and stop finding reason or excuses to not follow though. But I guess when you are thirty or something promises made are not important. Especially if you made to someone  of the older generation

I've read what's been posted and I have to say that I can see the value of judging each person individually.  I also agree that the way younger people act is due to the examples (or lack of) that they were given to follow at home.
I tend to think that the lack of courtesy is more of an across - the -board generalization that holds truer and yet...my unmentionables and my brother's unmentionables and their friends were always very polite.  Since they've moved away, some of that has been lost and the decrease in courtesy is easily seen when they come home and interact at the dinner table with us.
~shrugs~...My brother and sister-in-law and I continue to act the way we were taught and in the manner we taught them and about halfway through the first meal...sometimes all the way to the second one...that we all share, some of that lost courtesy has come back into play.

Courtesy is a social issue though.  Trustworthiness and honesty and integrity are more character issues and those are deeply individualistic.  Therefore, it becomes very difficult to look at a group of people as a whole and say "they're all lacking in integrity".

I'm pretty sure every generation has said this about subsequent ones.

I believe it is, and always has been, an unfair generalization.  It is almost always the examples of bad behaviour that stand out.  The good goes unnoticed.

As an extreme example, we've all seen newspaper headlines decrying the latest example of youth violence.  When was the last time you saw a headline proclaiming something like "99% of teens committed no crimes this year"?  I made up that number, but it illustrates my point.

Someone being hurt does not allow or excuse public ageist outlashing.

After all, isn't that just what Michael Richards did?

You want to vent and cry and bemoan the state of the world cuz you got your feelings hurt- that's what ice cream and girls nights in were made for.  Not public discussion forums.

However, this is why I made my first reply as I did, someone irrationally lashing out to a whole group of people due to having one bad man hurt her is not someone worth the energy or able to reason with.  Remember, not so long ago she ranted about how awful the whole scene was as well.

I bet you really do know not all young people break their promises.
I bet you also know not all Doms are trustworthy.
I bet you know some people are not going to act with integrity  no matter what the age.
I bet you’re just looking for a place to vent for a moment or two....

Sorry you got scorned.

So...... she is hurt....
End of the day.... people get hurt.
People lie...
People break their word...
People screw others around,
It happens.
I agree with LA on this one, it does not excuse ageism.
