Well, obviously, I'm not the only one who thinks the following: 1) generalizations can be shot down faster than Lee Harvey Oswald; 2) jerks exist in every generation; 3) LROD is kinda silly; 4) LA is hilarious; and 4) chia pets will be the death of us all. Fantastic! So nice to know I'm not alone. But I would like to point out that slavejlb was probably posting in a fit of sadness after being betrayed. It's tempting to want to blame anybody but the person who actually betrayed you because, for whatever reason, you liked that person. It's a lot easier to blame his/her generation than him or her. But the person who hurt you is the asshole, not everyone else in his/her age group. While that might be cold comfort now, it is actually reassuring. Since the whole generation is not rotten to the core, you might find someone worth trusting. Stranger things have happened. After all, I did have sex. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, yes, but it happened. So, now, I never say never.

I am 30-something and my word is the most important thing to me. My Daddy is 30-something - and his word is worth gold. As a matter of fact - most people i associate with are the same way. AND I know people who are 50 & 60-something that don't keep their word for nothing. It has nothing to do with age - it has to do with your set of values and ethics and what type of a person you are. To assume any different is ignorant.

It seems pretty clear some "young" person didn't keep their word with you. You've come out with a pretty strong generalization against everyone under 40 and I'm sure you'll come to regret your words; if you haven't already.

The younger generation are not worth a crap in the workforce. They cant make a whole week without being late, leaving early or missing a day. No jokesters I do not work a Wendies or McDonalds which has been metioned here to me before lol. Quit putting them down anyway if they have pride in their work and enjoy it more power to them. Too many welfare pigs out there too proud to flip a burger but not too proud to beg off the goverment. I do not have the answer why they are so lame because I am not in their shoes but I suspect they are just spoiled and unmotivated, a pure lack of self driven discipline. One youngster has a rich mother they have an agreement, what ever he makes she matches dollar for dollar. Even if it is a grand a week which is what we make in the busy season. I was raised to be independent. If you do not work for it, you do not get it, plain and simple. You can not have every dam thing. When you work hard and manage things right you can treat yourself to an occaisional luxury. Treat it with respect and be proud you worked hard for it.

Rather than say what's already been said 5 pages worth, I'm going to say why honesty and integrity are important to me at age 31 and has been important to me for as long as I can remember. I believe if I am anything but truthful, since I of course don't believe myself when I'm lying, I won't be as convincing to the person I am talking to. I want power, respect, and I want to be motivating. I am not willing to give up that power for the sake of convenient lies. In this way I can believe in myself, the belief can come across in the tone of my voice, and hopefully cause others to believe in me as well.

I'm glad the young are unreliable...I'm unreliable...all of you are unreliable. Old people blow. Young people suck. Keeps you on your toes. I am however, a young person, who always does her very best to keep her word. I realise that sometimes it is impossible or improbable, but I have always believed that keeping one's word is a value all should have but do not. I have been on the other side, have had people break their word to me several times, and understand how painful or frustrating it can be, which is another reason I strive to keep my word. I am slightly offended, as I am sure many others here are, that such a generalisation would be made. While I can see where you are coming from, I do think you should choose your words more carefully next time.

Age has nothing to do with a lying man or woman for that matter. Each generation has its good and bad and the younger generation are no different. Having raised four of the younger generation there are times I think they are from another planet and I know I raised them better than the way they behave sometimes but they learn from their mistakes just as we did.

my teen is the complete opposite - she wants to change the world in a huge way. she wants to undo the damage to the environment, end racism, and protests against the "war" in Iraq. she even wrote an essay speaking out against Prez Dubya and his policies for her civics class (she received an "A"). there are many things she wants to do and i believe if i keep promoting her social activism perhaps she will accomplish her goal.
