Liquid oxygen's the only one that's a single element?

Calliope, that may be true, but its not the answer I'm looking for.

Just a guess: Is ethanol the only one not used to knock people out?

No.  you can't knock out a person with LOX (tho its dangerous) or with Ethanol.  You're getting colder.  *GRIN*

FLASHBACKS would be the odd one out.

The other three are collections of writings by Aldous Huxley (and "Perennial Philosophy" is spelled like that).

My quartet:

Nitrous oxide
Ether
Ethanol
Liquid Oxygen

E.

Well, ether is not a oxygenated gas

I'll try Liquid Oxygen becasue its the only one that takes all forms...liquid, gas and solid.

Wait.... first of all, ethanol is distilled.. whereas the others are not, I don't think
Second of all, ethanol can be ingested (although I wouldn't recommend it in it's pure form)
Third, ethanol is being examined as a fuel source.

I would say it's the different one.

Edit: I was thinking more about and I think I got it.

Liquid oxygen is the only one that is not a liquid at room temperature. It requires a much lower temperature than the others.

Ron came the closest in finding the answer, but he got it wrong.

The answer is "Liquid Oxygen" because it is the only one that cannot be safely added to an internal combustion engine as an oxygenator to increase power.

Ether, Nitrous and yes, good old Ethanol have all been used by racers in fuel injection systems to deliver immediate increase in oxygen in order to provide short term increases in engine power.  If you try to inject LOX, you blow up the engine.

It was a dumb quartet, but seemed less so in the middle of the night.  Sorry, gang.

Katherine Parr wasn't a wife of Henry VIII?

Catherine Parr was the only wife he didn't have either executed or the marriage annuled. She was still married to him at the time of his death.

or

Jane Seymour is the only one to never be crowned (she died soon after childbirth). She is also the only wife to produce a male heir that lived to adulthood.
