Status: offline 		Did anyone else see Barack Obama on Jay Leno last (Friday) night?

It seems pretty obvious, from all the national press coverage he's received lately, that he's being groomed to run for President of the United States. 

I'm curious what opinions you have of him, if any.

Status: offline 		I didn't see him on Leno but I did see him on some news show and they called him a "leader" which I disagree with.
Senators and Congressmen are not voted into office to "lead" their constituents but to vote on the wishes of their constituents.
We tell them what to do and how to vote.
As for this Obama I wouldn't vote for him because from what I know about him he's too far to the left and isn't he a lawyer too?
I won't vote for anyone who's a lawyer.
Too many lawyers in government.

Status: offline 		  i really don't know that much about him, but from what i have heard and read, i'd vote for him. In fact, Obama and John Edwards might make good running mates. Maybe. i don't know. At least it won;t be a Bush.

Status: offline 		      He is a skilled orator, which would be a nice change, but I don't think he's ready yet.  I'd prefer to see him go for the Illinios Governor job first and the White House in '12 or '16.

     The problem the Dems are going to have getting my vote back is the extremists in the base get to pick the candidate, and I like them just a wee bit less than I do the rabid Fundy's who pick the Republican.

Status: offline 		I do like him a lot and what he has to say.  I agree with WyrdRich that I would like to see him get a bit more experience under his belt before running for the office of President.  In a few years though if he proves himself a good leader, I would have no problem voting for him at all.

I really hope he doesn't run for president now.  I don't think he has enough legislative experience to become president.  And quite frankly I don't believe America is ready for a black president and whoever is the first black president will likely be assasinated, so I'm hoping that crazy ass Alan Keyes is the first black president.

Don't you think that  the government..which makes, modifys and exercise those laws, should have people that UNDERSTAND law be the most qualified...hense Lawyers.
 
I sure wouldn't want someone removing my spleen not to be a doctor. There is nothing wrong with knowledge..it's all in how you use it.  (but I'm sure you know that :)  smooochums

Odd.  I had expected to hear some negative things about Barack because of the link.  I enjoyed the read.  Only reinforces my positive opinions of the man.

Hmmmmmm, don’t Senators and Congressmen deal with law?  Isn’t politics, for the most part…all about the ideologies and issues of our laws?  Politics seems to me (for better or worse) tricky business especially concerning corporate and religious institutions these days.  I’d rather a lawyer than…for example, some one like me!   LOL
 
sub007, are we sure it won’t be a ‘bush’ next time?  Dang, for three generations the bushes have dominated world politics; but what is jeb doing these days?  I’m just NOT gonna underestimate the power of those damn bushes.
 
Regarding Obama, thanks LnM for the link.  It was quite good information!  I too, would like to see ‘our leader’ have a bit more leadership under his belt before taking on running our country…but I rather like his rhetoric, actually.
 
And…knowing when to bet ‘em and when to fold ‘em is a good thing, right?

      It's funny (at least to me) that the most rascist people I know aren't the overt, redneck types, but the condescending liberals who support every 'minority' program that comes along because they (very quietly) believe that blacks aren't actually smart enough to achieve.  I don't see those people allowing him to be nominated.

He is actually pretty moderate, too moderate for my blood.. lets face it, real liberals rarely win corporate support and the media and the party structure is owned by corporate America


Edited to add that I see nothing wrong with having lawyers in congress writing laws... I mean lawyer and law maker is a pretty natural fit. It is much better than half wits that cannot understand legalese pretending to be able to do the job like Mary Bono, Sonny's wife.

Probably some liberal is responsible for cancer.

I cannot vote for a president in the democrat primary, I was a democrat only long enough to vote for Dennis Kucinich and then I bolted from that party. I have been an inde since registering when I was 18 and I was a democrat for only a year. If dennis Kucinich had not run I would have voted for Al Sharpton, but I so liked Dennis Kucinich I voted for him instead. So while I do not call myself a liberal, I get labeled one all the time, and the insinuation that liberals are racist is just wrong... Especially since I have heard conservatives rant and rave about Black people not voting for republicans shows that Black people lack the intelligence to vote in their best interests... as if Black people are too stupid to realize which side their bread is buttered on.

Status: offline 		The problem I have with Obama is he simply hasn't done anything. And Senators and House members historically don't make very good presidents for that simple reason.

But it looks like the Democrats are setting up a Hillary/Obama ticket. In which case they will lose the 2008 election if the GOP nominates McCain.

Status: offline 		Well I'm actually from Illinois and a few years ago I lived in his district when he was in the state legislature, the Hyde Park neighborhood for those who know Chi-town. Obama is very intelligent and seems to put the effort in to gain a good grasp on issues. These are traits I prefer in politics over GWB's glorying in knownothingness.

Is he ready to be POTUS? I doubt it and I doubt the US is ready for him to be POTUS. As we just reelected our governor the next gubernatorial election is 2010 which is also when his Senate term is up and I hope he takes a stab at the governor's mansion before trying for the presidency.
