Do you care to elaborate? Why is the question only centered around educators?

I don't see why a teacher who was a former porn star should be judged...we all have skeletons in our closets...some more than others...So long as the teacher was never convicted or committed any crimes such as child molestation, murder, etc....I don't think anyone's past should have to haunt them later....Sometimes people become saved and if God can forgive...so should we.

I saw that show on tv also, she taught highschool and her students had copies of the movies she was in and were passing them around. Once the  Principal found out  she was supsended with pay , then her contract was not renewed. (quasi firing)

All her reviews as a teacher had been excellent, but her quality as a role model was called into question once the movies became known about. Apparently there were 25 hard core porn movies starring her.

She should move to Florida we are begging for teachers down here.

kids will find out what porn is sooner or later its better they know what it is now so they can understand that some people make mistakes and try to become better in the future and not judge them for doing what they did

I've known teachers who were fired for having affairs.

Personally, I've often judged teachers... and given them appropriate punishments. (heh heh)

If the offense will affect their ability to teach the children..yes..you do fire them.

It is unfortunate..but if you believe that porn movies with a teacher starring..ISNT going to make its rounds throughout that school.. I think you are living in a "non reality based" reality. And once the kids knew what she did.. she would no longer hold any authority over them. Educators have a hard enough time getting the children willing to focus and pay attention to the subject matter. They dont need to have additional hinderances to that job.

What she did, she did willingly. She is not a victim. It is hoped that she managed to find a community that perhaps did not know her past so that she could teach again.

I'd be inclined to say that she should not be fired if she is a good teacher; after all, good teachers are rare and vital, and we're pretty stupid when we turn them away. As someone who taught for several years, I can tell you that lots and lots of people are driven from the profession because it offers so few rewards for so much work; if anyone wants to stay, they should be welcomed.

On the other hand, that her past has been recorded and is readily accessible puts a different spin on things; it seems highly likely that students will pass around copies of her tapes and snicker rudely at her during class, especially if she teaches middle or high school. Students of that age would think about sex more often than usual (which is probably 80% of the time already) when in class with her.

Should she be teaching elementary school, I'd imagine that kids would sense that a lot of people hold her in contempt (regardless of whether they "should" or "shouldn't" respect her), which would undermine her ability to instruct. The same would be true no matter what subject or age group she taught; if she had no support or respect from the community-at-large, her ability to teach her students would be compromised severely, even if no student ever saw or heard of her porn star days.

In the end, I would predict that she could no longer be an effective teacher in that community. However, it would be a shame if it were impossible for her to teach in another community that did not or would not discover that she was once a porn star. Like I wrote above, we need good teachers. How depressing that it's so hard to make a career change and so easy to trap people by early choices.

No wonder nothing ever changes.

Having just completed an accelerated teaching certification course and I am attempting to become a teacher, one of my instructors stated that in the teaching profession, and as a teacher, you are a part of the community and have to be held in the highest standard.  Sometimes, that even applies to having some discretion when it comes to being present at certain establishments like Hooters, or bars.

I feel bad for this lady because of her past that has been revealed and caused her to be fired.  I agree with Red Savage Slave and hope she will find a community who will look at her excellent qualifications and not her past.

I have also known people who were exotic dancers and are now teachers, too.

not unless they did something that would reflect upon their ability to hold their professional position.  For example...Teacher had affair with student, or Professor was caught fudging grades for some chick he was taggin. I mean those types of things would definately reflect their ability to perform their job under a reasonable code of ethics.

But be judged for bdsm activities, or going to a stripper bar, or having  gotten drunk at a party....nah....

On Edit:  I had only read the OP, but then I saw that the teacher had been a porn star in her younger days.  No, this shouldnt preclude her from being considered for a teaching position, but she should take care to keep it from following her to the school .

One of the things a teacher must do is enforce  sexual harassment laws and regulations. Hard to think she'll be respected when her background is so blatantly different from what she says.

The school district a friend of mine lives in has a high school principal who had a flaming affair with a teacher, sexual harassment charges filed. He's a joke and the school is out of control because neither the teachers, students nor parents respect him. Unfortunately he's a crony of the superintendent of schools there so he still has his job.

I think it should be judged on a case by case basis.  Obviously what she did detracted from the childrens learning.
Why do we send our kids to school if not to learn?

So, probably she should have been let go.  Though a different offense that the children would have not been able to carry into school for distraction, why not keep her on?
