Heh, I agree with 1-5; 6 and 7 sound a little dramatic.

<snip>The other thing that's currently putting the piss in my Cornflakes has been mentioned, but I feel the need to say it anyway... capitalizing "My/Mine/Me/Whatever." Especially since I usually find it tied to six or seven OTHER atrocious word uses.
especially when used in a statement along the lines of "It's all about Me..."

wewalkamongyu -> RE: Annoying things BDSM'ers say (12/12/2006 12:59:56 AM)

I know this is grilling up a sacred cow, but I have to agree on the W/we U/us  typing.  It hurts my eyes trying to read it.

I think Ludacris is.  If you listen to the lyrics, there's almost always a reference to "whips and chains" "smacking booty"...Love those guys!

Now that surprises me.

enchantemusique -> RE: Annoying things BDSM'ers say (12/17/2006 6:09:23 PM)

It really irritates me when dominants OR submissive do that stupid capitalizing of the first letter of specific words referring to that person. Example:

well, He told me that You and i would go with Him, her, and Her, to the store, so W/we can get together afterwards!

AGHHHH.

P/people D/do N/not T/talk L/like T/that I/in R/real L/life!!!!

Maybe I'm just strange and out here on this one. But I think it is SO pretentious- and just plain ridiculous. Pressing my shift key is not a form of respect.

Dodos.

You Know Something That Could Stop The Frustration Of How People Choose To Type?

Just see forums and things as a creative form of expression, kinda like when you read poetry, poets are allowed to break the rules of grammar and such things.

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Annoying things BDSM'ers say (12/17/2006 7:30:39 PM)

Yes, they are. But that doesn't mean they're immune from mockery. Technically, novelists are also allowed to break the rules of grammar and such things... but if they typed My house is My dream home and such they'd have a lot more trouble selling books (to publishers).

Speaking of which, the reason I hate E.E. Cummings (fuck him, he doesn't get to use all lower case) is because he breaks the rules of grammar/etcetera. Sure, it's his right- it's my right to think he's a pretentious nitwit who can't do anything following the simple rules of our language.

Forgive me for jumping in a a new poster here. but what irritates me is those that ask me how long I have been practicing BDSM and then roll their eyes when I answer. I am 45 years of age and reply off and on for 31 years. I use the term off and on, since I was not always owned or living that way constantly. Yes do the math that would have made me 14 at the time. And YES I was living with my Master and as kinky as i am now at that age.

I am also irritated with those that wish me to have a degree in english, to communicate.

Do you think the doms and subs who do that would try to write that way in a novel? That would drive all the English teachers I know nuts.

Fast reply:

I find it a bit annoying when people capitalize their personal pronouns. Just kinds rubs Me the wrong way. What I find even more bothersome is the overuse of  "LOL". It has its place, for sure, but some writers seem to feel they can say any old thing, no matter how ill-considered, as long as they bracket it with 'lol'. It strikes me as a form of rhetorical cowardice...LOL

jblack -> RE: Annoying things BDSM'ers say (12/19/2006 1:03:05 AM)

Well, most of the things that drive me crazy have been mentioned already: slashes and capitalizations in pronouns, speaking in the third person, presumptions that subs will submit to anyone, misuse of the word "dominate," and rhetotic used to convey the idea that there is "true" submission or domination. But here are a few that have yet to be discussed:

1. Misuse of the word "collared." When I see something like "I've been a collard sub for 5 years," I always picture a really moldy sandwich stuffed with limp, leafy vegetables.

2. Punctuation strings. When I see strings of punctuation marks, I get so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know why ......... maybe I'm too picky, but ........... Doesn't anyone know that less can be more????????????

3. All caps. STOP SCREAMING is my first response. My second response is to either hit the delete button or the back button to leave the message thread.

4. Text-message short-hand and/or leet speak. While I can understand y u abbrevi8 on the phone, please spare me when you have a keyboard in front of you.

5. Massive overuse of colors, styles and/or font sizes in postings. That can be very hard on the eyes. Sure, I can understand the desire to personalize the text, but once should really be enough.

6. More than one quote in a signature line and/or animation in a signature line. This is particularly annoying when reading threads where two people are in a debate or conversation and have posted many messages on a single page. Most of the page is then taken up with the same quotes, over and over again.

7. The "this isn't class" complaint. First, I doubt anyone would actually bring up these problems in thread about another topic, but this one is about communication problems. Second, believe it or not, bad grammar does result in bad communication. Such flaws make it hard to read and to communicate. Consider the following paragraph:

This collard sub doesn't agree with Y/you, your an idiot and i have to tell Sir cause He's so domin8 and doesn't like anyone to bother his little wee treasure muffin ........ this wee treasure muffin is sure that W/we aren't alone in feeling upset!!!!!!!! And Y/you really SHOULD NOT BUG ME ABOUT GRAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS NOT english class. Don't u know that?????????

Even if you can manage to ignore the illogical defensiveness in that paragraph, was it any fun to read? Would you even bother replying to such a post? When I read such things, all I want to say is, "For the love of God, people, make it easier on your readers! Have that much consideration, please."

But the thread isn't about language, so I write nothing at all and start worrying about the future of humanity.

Thanks for the chance to vent. This uncollard sub really appreci8s it. [;)]
