Exactly.  It's not like they could retrieve it.  It's a pick your battles kind of thing.  His time was more valuable to him than arguing over a flogger that is never coming back.  No biggy.  I have made him two since then.  I think I miss it more than he does, lol.

can't go on a trip without toys? i hope i never get to that point. when i was a child, my father had his favorite hammer confiscated when on a return trip to work on a relative's house. (pre-11/9) i figure if they take people's shiny new hammers lord knows what they would do with anything fun. personally, i always liked my mom's philosophy of getting through searches. Put a rank pair of underwear on top of your bag (the ones with the blood stains that just wont come out and maybe get creative with some chocolate in the seat for visual effect).. she always put a pair like that right on top unfolded so it was obvious they were nasty, and no one ever went past that no matter what they saw on Xray.

kit that's what rubber gloves are for, nobody here at the Sac international airports would not search a bag just cause a nasty pair of undies.

Heh... I don't think that would work too well at Regan International either.

Yeah nothing says I'm passive agressive and I hope your day sucks like a pair of dirty undies. I think that on an earlier thread on this topic it was discussed to put everything in individual plastice baggies that way they can take out your things especially personals like dildos and floggers that you really don't want touching who knows what. They can see inside and tht they don't want to mess with it. A note on top that says BSDM samples please use gloves and something about these items may have been exposed to bodily fluids. Seems like it would be honest, tell them what they thought they saw on x-ray was accurate and that you've got the class to follow the rules yet protect what's yours. This won't stop anyone from stealing but it keeps them from handling things that you don't want touched.

I think they feel they can get away with stealing sex toys becuase they feel people will be too embarrased to report it.

Not me. I had a $300 dollar custom made elk flogger stolen. I actually found it missing while still in the airport as I needed something in my bag while still at the terminal. I reported it immediately. Funny thing, I got my flogger back in 2 days! Perhaps the 'inspectors' were passing it around and forgot to pack it back in the bag?

just to be on the safe side, I have changed most tools to the new style plastic from the old style metal.

To date no problems.

Hi everybody, has anybody had any trouble with your toys in you check in bags. I would never try to bring any of it in carry on. I wanted to know. It's just normal stuff. Whips, crops, rope, cuffs, strap-ons... you know....

Thanks for the help.

I spent the better part of 30 months travelling extensively for my leather titles both domestically and internationally.  I've had no problems at all with checked luggage.  I have packed knives, signal and long whips, metal and leather cuffs, gags, rope, canes and other impact instruments, scalpels and needles and cautery pens.  I also travel with leather, corsets, boots and other fetishwear. Everything is packed in clear plastic bags so the inspectors do not have to feel "exposed" to anything.  I've had my bags unpacked several times, some when I was there, and others, without my knowledge (you find out by getting one of the TSA flyers in your stuff.)  Nothing has ever vanished, but one can't be too careful.  I use TSA-approved locks and don't ever pack electronic equipment (and that includes TENS units, PES, etc.)

In the rare instances that I've only taken a carryon, I've been sensitive to the regulations about what can and can't be packed -- rope, crops, dildos etc don't seem to cause much alarm.  Be careful leaving lube packets or bottles in your bag if you're carrying on -- place it in the baggie that goes with you in the screening area.

If there was something of value that I needed on a trip -- say a PES unit -- I'd ship it ahead to the hotel or a local friend and insure it for replacement value on the item.

Also, make sure you understand the limits on your travel insurance per bag.  Sometimes, it's worth carrying an extra rider for coverage or making sure that your homeowners or renters insurance will cover you for losses incurred if a bag gets lost or damaged.

I have travelled several times back and forth across the US-Canada border and never had problems.

I was going to say that I'm terribly surprised by the post about hassles with customs at the US/CN border.  I travel by ground up to Toronto at least once a year for leather events and have NO issues at all.  Even when I've traveled up to Northbound for a wholesale buyers trip coming back with tons of merchandise -- no worries.

I have a whole case of new BioHazard medical zip bags , so I just pop my toys into a bunch of those & write 'Please don't handle, Thankyou!' on them. I tape an inventory list of everything I pack on the inside, right on top of my clothes. So far nothing has been taken.
I do the inventory list thing with my medications too. Permanent marker on the outside of the plastic bag making it known I would easily miss something 'lost' by accident.

It helps too, to have a TSA approved lock on your luggage. That way it will be relocked by them and they don't need to cut through it.

They have a job to do so I just try and make it a bit faster/easier on them.

I like the idea of mailing things ahead of time to the chosen hotel, I'm going to try that when I go visit Austin again next month!

Judgemental much?  Some of us do travel to fetish and BDSM events.  At least the OP thought to ask before causing a scene at the airport or customs entry point.

Several things to keep in mind:

1.  Canadian laws are very lenient towards BDSM activities and toys.  However, many BDSM books and printed material are considered pornography and will be confiscated.

2.  Some US states have laws regarding "sex toys" such as vibrators, dildos, etc.  Know the laws of any state you're traveling to.

3.  Many US states have prohibitions regarding certain bondage equipment, such as handcuffs.  It's often best to leave them at home when traveling.

4.  When asked to explain why you possess BDSM toys, it's often best to simply state that they are for "personal use".  That precludes any admission that you may use them, or intend to use them, on anyone else.

I have also been stopped at the US/Canada border and had my luggage searched.  They young border agent was quite embarrassed about what he found, but when I explained that they were for personal use he seemed relieved and anxious to replace them without further inquiry.

Last time i went to visit Master (He lives in Canada, and i live in the States) i was one of the lucky folk who got pulled aside for a luggage check.  I placed the luggage on the counter between the inspector and i and couldn't help but grin while we chatted and he went through my bag.  When he got down to the bottom and pulled up a flogger and metal shackles he looked at them, then up at me, then immediately broke eye contact.  He quickly zipped my bag back up and sent me on my way.  i'd worried that i would be the one embarrassed, but seeing him squirming a bit at the sight of those two pieces made me grin even more as i flounced away, wishing him a wonderful afternoon.

OMG!!!! We had the same Mom (except for the chocolate.)  I make My UMs do the same thing now when Wwe are travelling and boys will be boys...they don't need the chocolate.    I usually feel sorry for Customs.

Oh, do I feel sorry for any hypothetical baggage-checker that looks through my stuff. I'm not the slightest bit shy about being leather, or even the tiniest bit worried about being out'ed... and there's always the fact that I enjoy seeing people squirm.

If I wanted to get really nasty, I could always educate the poor fool as to how said article is used... solely on oneself, of course.

Okay... so maybe I *am* a sadist... you were right, Kitten.

i have to have someone else wash EVERYTHING in my bag immediately when i get home after traveling....apparently my undies were deemed Very Dangerous the last visit to my parents house.

TSA agents use latex gloves.

i'm allergic to latex.  and yes, i raised holy hell before i'd let someone touch me at the airport.  *sighs*

kitten, who hates travelling.....

I haven't had a whole lot of issues with checked stuff, but I do pack a dildo (non vibrating) in my carry on, it is way too fun to watch the face of the person watching the screen when they see the mammoth 12 incher in there. Priceless.

i was one of the xray operators that saw many a toy . we made bets on the size . because plastic might look like c4 explosives we had to check them which was really gross. battery operated will get a thorough check up. so dont piss of the airport staff. they might decide to plop it on the table while other passengers watch.personal experience . someone pissed me off and i empty their bag during a very large flight boarding.

I've never traveled with it if I needed to fly.

I know there's nothing illegal about it, but I'd rather not risk the authorities enforcing laws that don't exist.

If you think that's good, you should be in the screening area when they pick up one of those Magic Rabbit vibes out of someone's carryon. Picked it up at face level and said, "Now what in the world is this?  A (unmentionable's) toy???"  Everyone on the civilian side of the belts grabbed their sides laughing, and the coworkers were like, hey stupid, put that back in the bag...it's a sex toy!
