I wonder what it costs to call from BC to Florida?

Ron

Probably not as much as some phone calls to Paris were. Though I must say the calls to the middle east were killers several years ago.

mnottertail -> RE: Threads going off-topic (12/12/2006 4:34:38 PM)

Why did you call from the mid-east to florida?

cjklyn -> RE: Threads going off-topic (12/12/2006 4:58:33 PM)

Shouldnt a thread in the off topic area start off "off topic"? in which case, as we don't know the real topic that the op is posting about, we can't be sure if any folloiwing post in the thread is on or off topic? seems aa bit quantum to me.
but on a serious note. Its natural in a long thread for comments to weave around the original topic. I think the frustration is when a topic gets hijacked and ends up on a completely different subject. I find that a little frustrating. I havent the time to read every single post and follow every single thread, so I use the main topic heading as a guide to topics I may be interested in, or want to take part in...when a topic I'm not interested in suddenly gets interesting, I'm going to miss it! far rather new topics are created in that case....
I also think it must be frustrating for OP's when they are actually seeking an answer to a question when the subject is changed away from the question before its answered.

AquaticSub -> RE: Threads going off-topic (12/12/2006 4:58:58 PM)

And now to get things really on topic... I'm going to go bake a chocolate-peppermint cake!

Honestly, I agree with your point about doing the dishes, but washing the car should be done on weekends.

Yours,

benji

mnottertail -> RE: Threads going off-topic (12/12/2006 5:06:47 PM)

I'll be damned--- the way the RSS went I thought Benji was going to bake the cake, and I thought it would be stale when he got back from Costa Rica.

Learn something new everyday.

In my experience, their question does get answered but while it's being answer the thread goes somewhere else because more people are more interested in talking about something else that relates to the topic. For me, that's how the forum cookie crumbles and it's not a biggie.
