Why do people get so annoyed when threads go off-topic? It doesn't seem like a big deal to me unless someone is trying to get advice rather quickly. Then again, I view all this as conversations and I like to see where they go. When you are just presenting something up for discussion why all the "boo hoo, my thread went in a different direction"? I can understand suggesting that a particular branch of discussion is deserving of it's own thread (I've done that) but I don't understand the fussing. Thoughts anyone?

...i tend to agree. Threads often wander off topic, and if the topic is strong enough they wander right back again........

I like cheese. Does anyone else like cheese? What's your favorite type of cheese?

I can't believe someone would take the time to post a note about off topic threads.  I mean, my time is SOOOO important, I don't have time to read your perambulations about off topic topics.  A Twue submissive/Dom whatever-you-two-are would KNOW better.  Besides, this has been posted on about 43 times in the past six months and LA will soon be here to prove that.

"It's the same thing," he said.

it's very "old" netiquette. From back in bbs days, when only 56k'rs had enough bw for it to not really matter if someone deviated from the OP's original course of rectitude.

So why do people get irate about it now?

IMO people will bitch about nearly anything they think they can get away with, and love nothing more than a chance to take someone to task, while seemingly in the right. But I'm kinda known to attract those kind. Like when they bitch about cigarettes, I'll light up another one.

Guess I just suck like that.

Least you don't do what I do. When people bitch about cigarettes about them about my Dad - the cancer surgen - who smokes cigars. Happily. It makes their brains hurt.

What kind of wine do you like with your cheese?  I don't care for wine too much, but I will drink it if I have to.  Going off topic is the way of the world.  Thread-jackers unite!

Depends on HOW they go off topic and how MUCH they go off topic.

Topics will go off topic, it happens.

But for a fairly good topic to be completely taken over by one-liners, or by people just having a private conversation within the thread, or a long debate about something else instead of starting a new thread...that loses the potency of the original thread.

People will bitch because it makes them feel better, better about themselves, better about their day, better than the people they are bitching about. Me, I am just a bitch!

And cheese, the only type I have tried that I do not like is bleu cheese.

I love a good fruity red wine. Mmmm.... anything sweet. But I prefer champgane (I don't have a clue how to spell that word!) to wine.

So tasty....The red wine makes Aqua go giggly and makes her want to run around but sometimes if she drinks too much she can't find her legs!

But Tigresse, you are just our kind of bitch!  Except for the bleu cheese thing.  Bleu (or blue) cheese is one of the foods of the Gods!  You need to relearn that.

And what's this about people posting private conversations in the middle of threads?  What's that all about?
