Status: offline 		What is the general ratio of real life male dominants to real life female submissives/slaves? Does anyone have a guess? I was just curious to know what the general amounts were.

You can find some statistical information here, though granted it's a limited survey.

As for generalities, male dominants and female submissives make up the largest group within the community - something that female dominants and male submissives typically bemoan. The rest of the groups - switches, and players without interest in relationship power play make up the smallest minority, though for obvious reasons it is nearly impossible to state that the different groups make up x percent.

Status: offline 		Well as far as ratio, I would guess its about 1 male dom for every 2 female subs, considering just the het situation.

As far as percentages as a whole, I think male subs and switches make up the largest contingent, but that's including the gay community which often doesn't mix with the het crowd unfortunately.

And in my broad circle of associates, switches are absolutely the majority.

Myself, I don't think there are any statistics out there that would be accurate. The lifestyle encompasses so many different facets. Where people fit in is up to them. There really are no organized groups and there never will be. No matter how much one wants to debate?
So all you're ever going to get is people's opinions and everyone has one.

I can tell you when I was searching, there literally seemed like there were about 20 male dominants to every female submissive.
Of course how off that is depends on the next person answering the question.

Each orientation is also going to think something different.

Status: offline 		I have to agree with the other posts that it would be near impossible to actually tag a percent to this. Part of the problem may lie in the way some of the labels are perceived...I honestly think there are more switches than want to openly admit it. From what I have seen in other communities and chatrooms I would have to say there is probably more male subs these days than female IMHO. I know that wasn't the question but thought I would just throw out that observation. In reality..I think there are enough of every"thing" to go around however, it's not uncommon to drop into a chatroom and see a much higher proportion of female subs than male Doms, of course that can change in 10 minutes..so go figure.

Last I checked with world population it's 6 females to every one male.
As for Male Doms to Female submissives it's up to anyones guess. However, I never seem to have a problem finding Single Female submissives ready to play. It's like they're everywhere. Although i do find it ammusing that you see something all the time, then when you are ready to go out and get it, not one is around at all to be found.

That's Life and not only is she a bitch but she has puppies to.

Huh? According to the UN, its 102 males for every 100 females (http://www.un.org/esa/population/publications/wpp2000/annex-tables.pdf).

Where are you living that 6-1 seems like a possible ratio, and can I visit?

That statistic reflects the general population - not the statistical average in BDSM. The numbers come out more skewed, though HOW skewed is open to debate. I would suggest though that the numbers will also be influenced by region/location. In some areas there may be a greater balance to the population as a whole - and in others the numbers may shift and the 6-1 ratio may certainly hold merit.

Status: offline 		The 6 to 1 ratio was a statisic I heard a few years ago on the news about population. I'm not saying ya or nay on the statement. It's just a statisic that I heard on TV.

However, when I attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, the student enrollment ratio was 7 females to 1 male. I can't tell you what the current ratio is now but you're more than welcome to visit and explore Huntsville TX at your discresion. The best club to attend is Shananagins but the Jolly Fox can be fun as well. The Best Western Hotel also has a pub used for Dancing and Kareoke with more ppl in there 30's and up attending.

As for Jewl pointing out females looking for just other females, that is a twist for a male who is looking for a female. It's another variable added to the equation. but oh well.

I thought you were talking about 'reality'? I believe the greater number of fem subs in online chatrooms can be explained by the great number of men who masquerade online as women.

From the context of his quote, I took "world population" to mean "world population," not "population of BDSM people in the world." From subsequent posts, it appears I was correct, as I doubt they were talking about world BDSM populations on TV. But I guess you never know.

I would hope there would be far less of that on a site such as this where there is such a variety of kink flavors to begin with, but I know myself to be too optimistic at times.

the key to this question for me, is the question of real. i came here from another site and it seems to be alot more 'real' after spending a morning browing these boards. i have met some of the real (on either side of the flogger) out n the world, but find these are really rare,and all the good ones are taken! i don't know what a real dom is but i have been lucky to meet a few real men that were dominant. it seems to me that there are more sincere female submissives than dominat men- at least when i look at the single ones

While I'm certainly no biology expert I assume that maybe this could be extrapolated to mean that eventually there will be even more and more female submissives to go around? To this I can only say...Yahoo! Line em' up!

Well, yeah, but by the time they're of age I'll be too old to appreciate them (at 40 I can almost justify playing with a 20-yr-old, although it's starting to lose its appeal; at 60 I would feel ridiculous).
