The death penalty is barbaric and should have no place in a society that considers itself civilised. A botched execution in a state internationally renowned for questionable convictions. About sums up the whole place and procedure.

This is a case in point. The Florida police couldn't be bothered to seek out witnesses. Key witnesses weren't called for the defence. Strange how reporters had no problem tracking down witnesses to say he was somewhere else at the time of the killings and tracked down a probable killer.

Everything about the case cries out for a retrial but no, that would expose the sloppiness and inadequacy of the Florida justice system.

That is horrific. No civilized society should tolerate the death penalty. But if we must have one, and if it is on the argument that it should deter others from committing such a crime, than make it fast and quick - a well measured hanging - and public. If no one can see it, how is it supposed to deter? Although, that would quickly make executions a thing of the past.

The part that distrubs me is that they doctor involved says she doesn't "think" he was in any pain.

And what about the pain and suffering of the victims family.?
To you the death sentence is barbaric. To me it's justice.

So he had to have a second injection. When he took someone
elses life he forfieted his own. Why does HE have a right to
continue living? He doesn't. I don't care how many injections it
takes. I think murderers should be stoned to death and the
vic's family allowed to join in if they want.

The murderer had 27 years to prove his innocence and couldn't do it.

I agree a murder conviction should have an automatic appeal to the state
Supreme court with an automatic re-trial IF prosecutorial misconduct can
be found or indicated. If not the execution should be scheduled for no more than 30
days hence.

I think it's cruel and unusal punishment to make the murderer wait a
liftime to be executed.

CA has around 650 inmates on death row. The majority have been there 20+
years and they have execute only 13 since 1976. That's one every 27 months.

Just in CA alone think what would happen if return 650+ death row inmates [convicted
murderers.] to the general population just to save some money. They should work on
loweing the costs not eliminating the DP.

Is the DP a deterent? Not for the general population no. But it is definately a deterent
for the executed criminal. He will NEVER offend again. period.

........does it follow that the state has the right to kill someone? If the taking of life really means that life is forfeit, then how can state execution be ethically correct? In order for this to happen we have to make exceptions for state-sanctioned murderers.......and once we start making exceptions where does it end?
For those who call themselves christian, thou shall not kill is an absolute commandment, there is no get out clause attached to it.

That is so ludicris it's not worth replying
The state is not doing murder as an execution is NOT premeditated.
State execution is the result of soemone elses action of murder.

As for the commandments you would be right if the KJV translators
had done so correctly.

In the original language it was you should do no murder. Check other
translations

Remember this translation was authorized by King James and there was
a we don't want to offend the King bias.

I might add that people against the death penalty quickly sing another tune
when it's THEIR, husband,wife, child or other relative that gets murdered even
if many times it's a clear case of manslaughter.

......i've heard this argument before. Only from people defending the death penalty, never theologians. Are there any people who don't agree with the death penalty, who understand the original language of the bible and who agree with your revised translation?

blindly. I personally don't know any christians that don't agree with death penalty.

I didn't say always. I noticed I did leave a word out. It should have said many people.

...interesting couple of sentences. The logical conclusion from your words is that being pro-death penalty is, for Christians, a case of following others blindly.

He claimed to be innocent. Just for kicks what if he was? It makes his executors no better than whoever did commit the crime.

As much horror as there is in the world and no matter how much I may empathize with the victims I never have felt the right was Mine to take a life, as I feel that if for the Creator to do and for ultimate justice to be carried out.

I used to agree with the death penalty until I considered, what if it was my loved one, son or brother.......that was wrongfully accused? What if I knew without a shadow of a doubt that they did not commit the crime? It gave me a whole different perspective.
