I think I look a smidge irritated in mine, but it's definitely an example of me in submissive mode. I'm wearing a color I never wear (gah, PINK!), because He liked it, I'm wearing a bell on a string (in public, and believe me, I had to field a lot of questions about it) because He wanted it. And I'm wearing a shirt that shows off much more of me than I normally would. I'm really more of a T-shirt and jeans girl. But I wore it, and when He wanted to take a picture, I posed. I'm normally pretty camera shy, so He knew this was stretching a limit for me, especially since I was dressed in something I felt was pretty humiliating.

(Also, it's good to see there are some other geeks here. [:D] He and I met over a pen and paper Star Wars RPG in an IHOP! Geekdom, er... geeksubs? reprazent. lol)

E: I just realized all the pictures on my profile are like that. Except the one in the mirror, and that was worse because He made me take the me take the picture by myself. And the renfair one, but that's a little different. Cleavage is unavoidable at renfairs.

If I try to smile big while posing for a picture, it looks all fake.  And I hate my smile anyway.  I have short teeth, so if I smile big, you can see my gums and I look totally goofy.  So if you get me to smile it's usually a small one or a smirky grin. [:)]

The one thing I'll say about your photo is that I think it needs to have been taken with a "fill flash" or to have been adjusted in a digital image editing program such as Photoshop due to the bright yellow background it was taken against.  Because of that, your face appears to be in a shadow and is difficult to see.  I've downloaded it from your profile and when I get a chance will adjust it and email you the adjusted copy to show you what I mean and you can decide for yourself. I try to vary it up with my photos. Usually the better photos are of those when I don’t smile.

Geekdom is sexxay.  :)

Does that mean I should put a photo up with me wearing my eyeglasses, some vitalis, a button-down shirt, white T-shirt underneath, and a pocket protector??  Would a slide rule (for those old enough to know what one is) be a good idea too? [;)]

I have to be honest - I'm just happy when they're smart enough to send a face shot and not one of their genitalia.

I couldn't resist asking, what if their genitalia look like they're happy and smiling? [8D]

Thank you pixel!  I appreciate you taking the time to do that! [:)]  I do have another one on my profile that was taken the same day and is clearer, and a fuzzy one taken with my webcam.

The very serious, snarling lady in fetish wear does absolutely nothing for me. I much prefer an ''every day'' vanilla picture, with at least a smirk....

I'm all about smiles in pictures, *runs over to check out profile pics* even though there's only one of me actually smiling. Actually I think the picture where I'm smiling is the best, it was taken when I was goofing around with my sister and it shows.
On the other hand there will always be a special spot in my heart for a picture where somebody's looking off and dreamily lost in their own world *mmm*

So why do people choose to use pictures where they are not smiling or even worse where they look so sad and miserable?

Is it some idea that it will make them look more serious or more submissive?

I think it just looks sad and I don't need a sad person in my life, do you?

Well my picture is meant to communicate a neutral image of me.  I've been told by many subs though that the look, that stare I'm giving is all Domme.  I dunno, I wanted it to be D/s neutral since I'm switch.

I hadn't thought about posting a photo of me smiling, but really it's not something I would stop myself from putting up.  I have lots of nice pictures of me smiling.

demistress -> RE: Profile pictures and smiles (12/21/2006 6:38:16 AM)

I smile alot, but I think my current main photo is the best head shot I've had from the perspective of being a domme.  It is not "snarling" or even scowling, it is representative of my style of domination, quiet, serious, and in control. :) As for pix of others, I like pictures that show some aspect of personality, wether it's a smile, a shy look...... I like to be able to clearly see the eyes.
