NobleOne -> True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/23/2006 7:11:04 PM)

How does everyone feel about being with the same person for a life time? Do you believe in it or not?

cuddleheart50 -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/23/2006 7:18:27 PM)

I believe in it, and hope to one day find it.

I can't imagine not having that goal.

Its my preference.  Once I find the right one, I plan on keeping them with me for the rest of our respective lifetimes.  I know for a fact that Angel feels the same way, we have had this discusion several times before.

I've always believed in it.  I think it's difficult to obtain though.

WyrdRich -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/23/2006 8:02:41 PM)

       It's what I'm shooting for.

Donnalee -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/23/2006 8:11:27 PM)

I'm in one and right now having some trouble wondering what the big thrill is in obtaining it.  17 years later and I'm having trouble getting what the "special" part is.  I know this is some phase, but the grass is looking greener.  I think I've lost perspective, really.  I'm interested in what you get out of the relationship in the 15-25 year phase.  We have love, respect, companionship, unmentionables, compatability, stability.  All those things I hear people talk about wanting.  But I forgot why!  I'm interested in hearing why you want them if you do.  I remember really wanting all those things, but I don't feel it right now, so it's hard to feel the value of it.  It's an odd place to be....I suspect some type of mid-life re-evaluation going on for me personally, but I still would like to hear WHY you want the long term.

Sole mate?  Well, they're great but they do wear out and you never can find a decent cobbler thesedays, you just have to throw them away and buy another pair....so definitely not for life.

But....I could be interested in a soul mate, someone I'm reconnecting with from another lifetime.

Not a life time. In my opinion, young people have to live their youth and twenties - get all of the debauchery out of your system. Do what you need to do to experience what you want to experience as a single person - travelling, as much sex as you can cope with, experimenting with drugs etc. Whatever you want to do as a single person.

Once all of that is out of your system then you're ready to commit to someone. In sum, I'd say a partner for 50 maybe 60 years of your life. At this stage of my life I need something deeper than multi-partners can offer thus the 50/60 years comment. To each their own.

Maybe its cultural but I wouldn't advise anyone in Britain to get married before 30 because in Britain there's too much of a good time to be had that may be too tempting in your 30s if you haven't got it out of your system pre 30s.

I believe in in I thought i had it.....i was married for 19 years so well it nearly had it...I suppose had he not gone poly without me knowing about it....and well without agreeing to it may have been able to save a marriage...but well ah i suppose he may not have been mr right  but he was mr right then and there... I do hope that there eventually be someone that will "get me" and acceptme  for all that i am and all that i am not somewhere down the road....It would ba a sad life if i will remain alone for the rest of my days

"sole mate" lol,
and I thought he meant that seafood delicacy, fillet of sole....silly me.

But as we already see, most all the ladies dislike the idea of any impermanence, or switching partners much at all. To the point they "can't imagine" any other goal.

What about you OP, since you asked..is it your goal? Do you believe in it?

Quivver -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 3:47:31 AM)

One for life?  I guess that all depends on when you want to start ~life~.
I'm with NorthernGent but for different reasons.  I think our needs evolve over time.
What works at 25, many times no longer works at 40.  But our society isnt set up that way.
It rewards longevity even if it's spent in agony.

I for one do believe in Soul Mates, please note I used the plural tense meaning more then one soul can be a mate.  Once you've met one they will always have a place in your life tangible or not.

meatcleaver -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 4:01:50 AM)

I believe in it every time I meet someone new.

Married at 30, divorced by 50. That seems perfect to me. Then carry on as you left off at 30. Despite the proclaimations by women on CM that they want permanence, while they may mean it when they say it, there are many women out there that want anything but permanence or at least that is my experience.

KatyLied -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 5:22:57 AM)

I will always believe in love.  I can understand why people would be cynical though, because I have those moments where I find it difficult to believe that we can find everything we want manifested in one person (I know for me, that's a tall order).  And here many seem to find their ones many times.   [8D]

I'm positive I have the "one", but I am not limiting myself to one, my goal is to have the "ones" for a lifetime.

happypervert -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 6:03:12 AM)

I believe it happens -- my cousin married his childhood sweetheart and they're still together decades later.

But I also believe the notion of "one" is both nonsense and unhealthy because people concoct some fantasy they think they'll find and just end up disappointed and alone when they can't find it. So I avoid anyone who is looking for one; instead I think there are many out there who would be quite suitable.

LaTigresse -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 6:07:28 AM)

I believe in it but I also believe that there can be multiple soul mates for us. It seems silly to think otherwise.

wandersalone -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 6:16:42 AM)

I have tended to believe that we are with people for certain amounts of time based upon our needs and wants and stages of life etc.  I find it strangely disconcerting to be almost 40 with no significant relationship anywhere on the horizon. Smiles, maybe my time has yet to come.

warm wishes to all over the festive season, especially for those for whom this time can be more of a struggle than a celebration.

krikket -> RE: True Love, sole mate, sole partner, Life Partner........... (12/24/2006 6:33:38 AM)

i used to believe strongly in the one person for life, "until death us do part", but ... Since we had "celebrated" our 26th anniversary before his greener grass needed his "personal touch", i consider that a pretty good run.  i'd still like to believe, with all i have in me, that it could happen again, but i'm either more jaded or more realistic..lol.
