I have a tremendous threshold for pain. Hell..... I've been stabbed in the gut before {younger days} and still kept thrown' - Same goes with fear......taken some seriously tumultuous swims in ice cold rivers and I'm back in the water the next weekend.

Wow. That was in a fight or flight mode right? Adreniline kicked in as self preservation mode went into action.

I Myself have found it to be that way. I use to shrug off injuries and pain (cuts and bruises) when I was younger.

Guess what I haven't found was the endorphine rush of being flogged or whipped while passively taking it.

When I am sick the best thing I can do is sleep or the endorphine rush of sex or chocolate.

My pain threshold is inordinately high - through the roof.

A few years back I inadvertently broke my right ankle in two places.  I thought it might be a sprain.

The next day, I drove (on said right ankle) 500 miles to a business meeting that was supposed to last through the week.

The following day, things weren't getting any better, so I drove to a hospital.  The doctor let me know my ankle was broken (in two places), and since I was 500 miles from home it was decided I should wait until I got back home to have it set.  So, at 3:00 in the afternoon, I drove the 500 miles back home (on said right ankle).

It was finally set on what would be day 4 of the adventure.

Personally, I thought the whole thing was an inconvenience at best.

I can take what I can dish out.

Jeff

My hats off to you. Wow.

Do you not think it was survival mode on adreniline?

Would you be able to passively accept what you submissive does?

My Dominant regularly says, "I am at one with my inner wimp."

Not so good on the pain threshold, that one [sm=lol.gif]

I like that one. ;)
So is he great at administering pain? Is it something diameterically opposed on the personality of a dominant would you say?

MaryT -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/12/2007 4:52:09 AM)

Maybe some of it has to do with being able to eroticize pain.  I've been interested in hand strapping because it sounds like it would be near impossible to process or eroticize that kind of pain.  Before anyone goes off on it, people in the know have told me that it's dangerous ... I'm not actually going to try it.

A toothache will put me on the ground in fetal position bawling like a baby.  There's a slim chance that impact play would have that effect.  [:)]

I could probably welcome, at times, the types of play that I have administered from the top.

Even in those times it weren't quite as welcome, I'm certain I would be able to take without complaint.

Yes the mindset has ALOT to do with it. Full body strapping can be just that.

Have you ever used play to mask day to day pain?

Mary, what's hand strapping?

Thanks

I have a strange pain tolerance... I broke my ankle playing baseball when I was in high school and played the rest of the game. The doctor at Urgent Care the next morning told me it couldn't possibly be broken because I walked in... limping heavily, granted. Six weeks later when it was still swollen, another doctor diagnosed it as a splinter fracture and, since it had healed improperly, it needed to be re-broken and re-set. Then I played a season of high school football with a broken arm, because I was too stupid to get a cast, since a cast meant not being able to play. There's a slight crook in that arm where it healed a little off. Took a couple beer bottles to the head as a bouncer, and had the righteous shit beat out of me more than once when I misjudged how pissed a guy was and got jumped... but never really slowed me down much.

But if I stub my toe/get a paper cut? I'm immobilized.

So how does that effect your ability or desire to discipline your sub?

Hi Ross,
Yes, from the sub side of the coin.
I don't enjoy pain but withstand a lot as the energy exchange feeds us both in the giving and taking of such extreme energy and being used as a vessle of release is my desire.
Knowing I'm being used for their pleasure and fulfillment is my get off.

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/24/2007 8:11:44 AM)

I can't say that it really affects the level of intensity with a sub... people are different. Their threshold (and desire to stretch that threshold) is what drives that.

safodc -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/24/2007 10:14:03 AM)

huge treshold for pain here

Sinergy -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/24/2007 10:28:39 AM)

Howdy,

I have a rather high tolerance for pain.  I have been involved in martial arts and exercising strenuously for years.  I had two surgeries under local.  I told them to stop giving me vicodine after an appendectomy.  I throw out or dont bother filling pain pills for injuries or surgeries.  I was in a relationship where I took a tylenol once (had damaged something or other at work) and the person I was with was shocked and said "Damn, that must really hurt, you never take pain medicine."

As Patrick Swayze says in Roadhouse, "Pain dont hurt."

I did break down and take two tylenol today.  I had dental surgery yesterday, and after being grumpier than normal I finally took strumpet's advice and took some tylenol.

strumpet enjoys pain.  I like it when strumpet enjoys things, so she gets plenty of pain.  I was with somebody who was not particularly in to pain, but enjoyed bondage and being told what to do.  She got tied up and told what to do without a whole lot of pain.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

MistressDiane -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/24/2007 3:58:39 PM)

I'm a huge pain pussy. I don't deal with it well at all but as a Sadist I can be rather intense. It's their suffering for me, giving their very all and then some that gives me the mental orgasms.

I tore a piece of the meniscus plate in one knee, went to the doctor who wanted to operate.  I went to my martial arts master who showed me an exercise I could do.  Two years of hellish pain as I did the exercise 4-6 times a day, especially before and after working out.  Two years later I was skiing again.

I cracked my heel bone doing rolls and hitting a board at the edge of the mat.  Hurt like hell for years, but I never stopped doing front rolls.  4 years later, I had my ankle x-rayed and my doctor said "when did you break your heel bone?"

I was teaching a class on unarmed defense against the armed assailant class a few months ago, and one of the students bounced on my weapon hand with her knee to pin it and did something to one of the ligaments or tendons in my wrist.  Hurts.  Will eventually heal.  To sort of protect it I use hand wraps.

I could go on...

Sinergy

p.s. Im curious about the ankle injury.  Did they have to rebreak the ankle in order to set it?

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/24/2007 5:19:38 PM)

Just out of curiousity, how long would the rehab have been if you'd had the surgery?

thekajiracat -> RE: Threshold of pain (1/24/2007 5:41:23 PM)

i have a very high tolerance for pain. i physically and mentally enjoy it. i am not currently owned but in previous situations in which i was i discovered that even if i wasn't physically enjoying the pain i mentally enjoyed it because i knew it was something that my Owner enjoyed. anything that He enjoys and anything that He gives to me, including His pain, are things that bring me joy.

Threshold of pain

administering pain to thier submissive?

I admit to being such.

I have a pretty high threshold of pain.  One of the things they found out about us when I was in the part of the service I was in was just how much pain we could take.  Since getting out of the service, I've done some things that other healthcare professionals told me I should not be doing so soon after this or after that...~shrugs~...I stayed within the guidelines, it was just always on the lower end.

Would I want to try and test that threshold to see if I could take what a submissive or a masochist does?  No...and not so much because I am afraid that I couldn't take it as the fact that I Don't...Like...Pain.  Being able to take pain and liking pain are two different things, just as "good and/or fun pain" is different from "bad, don't want" pain.  And yet...I am also one of those dominants who lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvves watching a submissive take pain, not only when she is enjoying it but when she is struggling with it in order to receive it for my pleasure and to push her own self-imposed limits.

I was attacked by a person I considered a friend once who came at me with a knife.

We were both drunk.  I didnt want to kill the person.

I grabbed for the hand.  I got the knife.  I have scars on my left hand.

I kicked them in the stomach.  Left.  Called the ambulance.

Refused to file charges.  Went home.

Pain doesnt really kick in under adrenalin.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.
