For me (another sub perspective here--i know, not really what you were looking for) it's all about the submission and vulnerability...and my threshhold varies widely with my emotional set.
If i'm scared (like my first meeting with a domme) then my pain threshhold is pretty low--i've got too much other junk going on.
If, on the other hand, it's a domme i know better, and trust more, i can still get that delicious feeling of being vulnerable and at their mercy (not particularly comforting with a sadist, i might add) but i can take more pain.
With pain outside of play--i'm a complete baby. When i had my appendix out, there was no tylenol with staples in my stomach! it was the small incision where i didn't even have to HAVE staples (or even a cut longer than a couple inches--though in fairness, there were THREE cuts) and i was like "Lortab, please!" [;)]
