When I first started out exploring BDSM, the person who was teaching me was trying to make me into their sub. Didn't really go as planned for her, but I still got to see what it was like on the other side of the whip a few times. Later on, whenever I got a new tool or toy I would try it on myself first to get an idea of how much pain it had the potential to cause. As a kid I would run around with no shoes all summer and wouldn't even notice the thorns, burs, and sometimes glass that I got stuck in my feet because I was too busy playing. I've had some horrible injuries that, while they took my breath away, didn't make me cry/pass out/really react at all. My family were all firemen so I learned simple first aid early. Every time I pop my arm out of its socket I can grab it and put it back by myself. I guess I can handle a lot of pain actually, but I am not numb to any of what I have mentioned. I felt everything, and it hurt, but I have some weird ability to control my reactions to the pain. edited because I can't spell, blegh.
