Interesting points of view... and time spreads!  Anything from 90 minutes to a year and a half...
Myself, I have to be in a steady relationship with a person before I have sex with them. If the person has had sex before (not everyone has  ), then I insist that they get checked. I do as well, and generally we go together to hear the results. People who are too uncomfortable or simply refuse, don't get nookie from me. Since I don't like having to have barriers on hand all the time or always using them (I prefer none with women), and I don't like gambling blind when it comes to my health/life... gotta get checked.

Relationships are like full time jobs and should be treated as such. If your boy/girlfriend wants to leave, they should give you two weeks' notice and severance pay. Also they should have to find you a temp.
