A coward for not wanting to hurt them, no. Ive been there before.
However, looking to make sure you have a backup before you leave doesnt make you look good. Not wanting to hurt your partner means ending it before there is a reason to be more severely hurt than things just didnt work. Waiting until youve found someone new to take their place compounds things not working wih your cheating, which always hurts a hell of a lot more.
