Other than photos...they don't have much else to represent themselves with online. Of course I judge.

Being a novelist and an English major it does annoy me at times to see how people tend to butcher and bastardize the language, and watching people misspell words over and over again tends to cause me to grind my teeth. Yet, I also make allowances for most people for I realize several factors.

Typos occur, I am guilty of those upon many occasions. Accidents happen and there are some words that even a spell checker will not find. I have sought the spelling of some archaic words that I was unable to verify the spelling even using several different online sources.

Then you also run into some people that though they are highly intelligent people, for one reason or another they were unable to even finish school. My own mother only got as far as a freshman in high school. I know several others that are in the lifestyle that were hidden and kept out of even grade school. They supposedly were being home schooled, but the truth was that their tests were being completed by one of their parents and they received no education at all.

Yet, they do fairly well communicating and picking up the correct spelling of words as time goes on. It is the grammar that they have the most trouble with. So, in cases like that I watch for content more than anything.

Where I am most likely to jump someone for their spelling, sentence structure, grammar or punctuation is when they begin bragging about their intelligence or how important it is for others to have good communications skills and yet theirs are horrible.

That is when I will come out with my flogger and begin lashing. I will look for the tiniest fragmentation of failure in their communication skills and I will let them know about it, and yes, I have even been caught with my own typos when doing it, but you can tell the difference in a single typo versus hundreds of continuous errors.

I do prefer NOT seeing text speak in forums, chat or email, but on cell phones I understand it and it does not bother me.

An occasional typo doesn't stress me. I don't like it when someone shows consistently poor grammar and spelling. They don't have to write like an English professor but they should make an effort to look somewhat educated and intelligent. I have zero tolerance for "net speak." I can't stand to see, "U R so hot. Wats ur name? R U from tx? Me 2."
