For those of you who identify as puppies...

First of all...how long do you typically spend in that role? Does anyone do it 24/7 or for extended amounts of time?

i have been talking with a Dom for a little while now and i want to be His puppy but i am having trouble understanding something. He says that puppies don't know any better sometimes and they have to be trained to do things correctly. He is talking about things like going to the bathroom in the correct place. Now, i can understand that as a puppy i might "make a mess" but i am also a human being who knows better. When do i decide to "finally get it" as a pup? That i am supposed to relieve myself on these newspapers rather than on the floor or in a cage or whatnot.

For me with my real puppies till I caught them in the act and squarely smacked them in their privates while they were peeing they didn't get it. Once I did catch them and smack them in mid stream they got it right away and I had no more peeing problems.

For you it seems the best person to ask would be your Dom.
If he's not happy with you peeing where you should only he'll know how long he expectes you to not be housebroken before you can be house broken again.

Well...there are diffrent types of puppies: messy puppies, snuggle puppies [:)], verbal, non-verbal etc...I also once saw a news report about a guy in the UK who is a total non-verbal puppy when he is home...much to the delight or annoyance of his wife and kids (never really was clear which it was)....you should ask yourself, look deep inside and try and determinan just what kind of puppy you are...even your breed.  AKA etc is good to see what breed matches with your personality/ desired personality...

I'd go for "extended", with the assumption that I'd be liable to finding myself graduating to "24/7" at the Owner's discretion.

As a former pup, I have a feeling he may not be talking about anything in particular, but simply about you getting more fully into puppy space. The place where you are no longer (at least for that time period) "the human being who knows better". But rather the innocent, accepting puppy who (very litterally ) looks up to him, adores him like a puppy, jumps and barks and wags her tail with happiness whenever you see him. Because you know that you can go into your happy, loyal, willing to be trained puppy space.

'Cause once you are there, you won't be the confused human you are now with your questions, trying to figure out what he wants. You won't need any words posted in the forum to tell you what to do(and of course won't be using them yourself. You'll be happy, or sad, wimpering, barking lonely, impatient ).

You'll react naturally. Just like the puppy he wants and you want to be.

subsnow -> RE: Puppy Headspace (1/30/2007 8:09:08 AM)

i finally reached that headspace and it was wonderful. He told me later that He noticed when it happened and He found Himself thinking that He was playing with a real puppy. i was so pleased to hear this. i love going into that headspace.

i am still having trouble with the bathroom thing though because He wants me to ask for permission to go (by whining or something like that). He also wants to be present. i end up going out of that puppy headspace when i have to ask permission. Then i am nervous because He is in the room and i can't relax enough. *sigh* Hopefully it will come in time.

WalterRego -> RE: Puppy Headspace (1/31/2007 8:58:47 AM)

Good pup! What a good puppy you are![;)]

It's nice that he told you later that he noticed your transformation, but I hope he also rewarded you right then and there while you were in puppy mode. That's after all how real pups get trained: reinforcing good behavior right at the time when they do well. If he wants you to be a pup he needs to train you and give you reinforcement while you are a pup

I have to be honest with you, during my brief puppy time I was never "paper trained" and don't know how I would have reacted to it if it was tried. But if this is important to you, ask yourself, what would a real pup do (have you ever had a dog?). She'd go right over to where the door to the outside was and whimper and scratch at it, to tell her owner she needed to go out. Or if it was a place inside, keep scampering over there and barking, to tell her owner she needed to go. Maybe if she was a really bright pup and he wasn't paying attention, she'd even grab his pants cuff in her jaws and try to drag him over to her spot. You don't want to ask permission in any way that would take you out of your puppy headspace, but stay in it (same way you wouldn't want to leave any other playtime headspace).

I can't help you with the problem of not being able to go while he is in the room, except to say that  you were inadvertantly right about one thing: if you get to the point where you really have to go and you are sitting where it is that you are supposed to do it,  trust me, no matter how nervous you are, it definitely "will come in time."

'course the question is.... well, never mind.

subsnow -> RE: Puppy Headspace (1/31/2007 11:06:32 AM)

*jumps up and down wagging tail*

He reinforces good behaviour at the right time all the time which is nice. He also corrects bad behavior right away. i learned 3 valuable lessons this weekend. Electronics like the remote aren't chew toys, don't chew on the crop and then run away when Master comes after it, and don't forget to always walk on the left.

Anyway, that is what He said as well. If i wait long enough i will have no choice but to go no matter how nervous i am. W/we are going to try this. He also has a diaper fetish and He mentioned trying something out with that briefly.

littlesarah -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/1/2007 9:36:35 AM)

i sorta have a spin off on this topic.

i want to be a 24 7 puppy for my Master, but He is unsure about it because He doesnt know much about the different types, and what not. When i think about it i realize that even though i wish to be a puppy, i myself do not know much about it either, even tho it is natural for me to pretend i am a puppy, but have never been in puppy headspace, nor do i really understand what it is.

If anyone knows of a site or something that i could go to so that my Master and i may understand more and so we might be able to move on. it would be very appreciated. thank you

subsnow -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/1/2007 4:25:32 PM)

i have lots of sites you can go to. my favorite is the leatherdog one. Most of them are directed towards gay men but they have a lot of basic information that will help a lot. i found the last one to be very tedious. It isn't easy to find the information but it still might be helpful. Good luck and have fun. J and i started by just trying things out. W/we tweeked things here and there to make them work for us.

What's happened to www.thedoghouse.org ? Their "hetero ads" section has a datestamp on it that goes back to last summer, and the front page updates section seems to be more than six months old. Has it been abandoned?

subsnow -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/20/2007 11:20:29 AM)

i'm not sure. i never spent much time there. i didn't find it to be very organized. It is very possible that it has been abandoned. i know that the leatherdog site doesn't get much work done on it anymore. Wish i could be of more help.

subsnow -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/20/2007 11:23:30 AM)

So i have finally gotten over the bathroom thing. No more hesitations there. Now i am having trouble barking. i remained silent up to this point because J used to have roommates but now they have moved out. He wants me to bark like all good puppies do but i seem to have a mental block up agaist doing this as well. i believe it has to do with insecurity and feeling stupid. Hopefully this can be overcome quickly. It sounds like J has some nasty persuasive techniques that He is planning on using if i can't bark this weekend. *whimper*

The Lennon Sisters did a song---

How much is that doggie in the window?

I know a hipster like you got a MP3 player-----memorize it!!!!!!!!!!
and just do the puppy part out loud and do the rest in your head as you are about the play-----
Puppies don't think, they just want to play and have fun.

Ron

And of course, BahaMen Who let the dogs out, but you ain't a big dog yet.

subsnow -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/20/2007 11:31:22 AM)

Hehe...thanks for the advice. You're right, puppies don't think. How is puppy supposed to memorize that song then? Just kidding. i am hoping that i can get into the puppy headspace enough to just let go. It feels so great to be in that space. i can forget about everything and just have a doggone good time (pun intended).

mnottertail -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/20/2007 11:34:03 AM)

there you go, and you dont even have to form words, you can bark happily, bark in pain, bark in joy and bark as a playful rough and tumble ready combatant.

And you really dont even need to know how to spell or have a dictionary at the ready.

Hi Subsnow, not to hijack the thread but I like that avatar. I sure hope my li'puppy can find one like that [;)].

WalterRego -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/20/2007 11:47:26 AM)

Try this, go to a pet store, friend's house or park (but be careful not all dogs are friendly there). Find a cute doggie that looks playful or lonely,. Look into pup's eyes, make eye contact.... and then try to communicate in her/his own language.

hereyesruponyou -> RE: Puppy Headspace (2/20/2007 2:43:17 PM)

My real puppy almost never barks. It can be frustrating at times actually. We had to learn the difference between jumping up on us for attention and to let him out. The only time he ever whimpered was after i got him fixed.....but that only lasted an hour, then he was pouncing the cats again..... btw - he's 9 months old and we still almost never hear his voice

This is animals cruelty, one should never actualy cause an animal pain, a squirt of wather, a stern word or a strict but not painfull grip and little shake is what one should use, one should never hit a dog, and definitly not in the sensible parts. Now a human being into puppyplayis somthing diffrent, they have consented, a halepless animal have not!
