TreSwank -> RE: Racism, Classism, or Justified Preference? (It's a Long Post) (1/10/2007 1:26:56 PM)

It might not seem like it folks, but I AM a liberal in spirit. I would support the legalization of drugs, prostitution, most kinds of pornography, and gay marriage..................but then again, you've always got that "crust" element of fools that'll shove it all downhill. Just because I don't feel comfortable around minorites, doesn't mean that I would deny anyone their civil liberties, although I think that you need to know the English language BEFORE you come here (unless you're just visiting). I work with alot of Chinese, and let me tell you - they're adorable little yellow skinned noisy, fast-paced people. The only flip side, is that a ton of casino patrons get pissed off because these poors souls haven't taken the initiative to learn the rudimentary elements of our language, even after TWELVE or so years of residing in the U.S. of A. They can't answer simple questions..........and if an emergency were the pop up where only these people were present, everybody would be up shit creek without a paddle. I love the Chinese, but they frustate the hell out of me when I walk through the employee cafeteria, and have to point to food items because the sandwich lady is Chinese, and doesn't know a lick of my native tongue after ten years of working in America. That is UNACCEPTABLE. I shouldn't have to add thousands of Chinese characters to my lexicon because immigrants don't want to assimilate. Seriously..........the majority of these Chinese don't know ANY english, and what pisses me off even more, is that the casino doesn't offer any basic English classes to the Chinese, who make up about 45% of the our workforce. Don't they care about the quality of life for these cute little ying-yings? The flip side, is that the ones who DO speak a MINIMAL amount of English, make anywhere from $18 to $25 as card dealers, and we've got people that speak the language perfectly in our streets who can't get work anywhere.. I know that it took me a LONG time to find a job when my last place of employment closed down. Slap me sideways and call me a dumbass for not going to college. I do love to hear the Chinese converse in their own tongue. It sounds like complete and random babble, with emphasis on the wrong syllables. "Chong-wong, dingle dingle dong. Sha Sha fey moo teeya!"
