Status: offline 		Two things to get him to stop screaming, one play with him much, two, keep him interested with many toys (no, not that kind),
I have 3 cockatoos , a blue and gold macaw and an indian ringneck, they are a lot of fun but they get bored so easily (much like  a fractious sub)

Status: offline 		      I'm just curious... anybody else out there who finds that birds simply depise them?  I've been bitten by two African Greens, hissed at by a Cockatoo and bitched at by countless parakeets.  The only one that simply tolerated me was a friends Blue/Green Macaw... and he sat on the laps of complete strangers (never me of course).

      Other than rattlesnakes in my yard, I love animals and they love me.  What is it with birds???  Am I the only one?

That is kind of weird. I've known birds to not get a along with certain people (I call it "personality clashes") but I've never heard of someone universally despised by birds... Sounds awful, if it were me I would probably cry. *grin*

Do you wear hats or glasses a lot? Birds tend to REALLY dislike people with things on their heads.

Status: offline 		      Pretty much a lifelong deal, no matter what I'm wearing.  It's not a Hitchcock sort of thing.  Just domesticated birds too.  When I was able to sit on the beach for my lunches over the summer, the seagulls liked me and my scraps just fine.

Status: offline 		I can't add anything to what the others have said... They all said it well and i agree totally.

I'm just glad i have my little cockatiel, totally spoilt and adorable and i wouldn't swap her for the world.. We have had a few teething problems, but i view them as MY fault not hers.
I'm supposed to be the species with higher intelligence, therefor it must be my fault... 
I would venture to say that the same applies to every bird owner.

Status: offline 		Wow I thought I was the only one lol. Yes yes & yes. I have scars from birds.. it began with a pelican when I was four and it continues to this day.
They dive bomb me.
They peck!
They stare at me with their beady lil birdie eyes while flexing their sharp lil birdie talons.

I've never hurt a bird in my life but they are bent on hurting me.
Jeez now I'm scared to leave the house *s*.

Birds tend to see things in terms of "shapes". THIS shape means a tree, which means safety, THIS shape means hawk, danger! With time and gentle training, they eventually learn that a "human" shape is ok to be around. But change that shape by adding something like a hat to the mix, and well, to a bird you've got a whole new creature that could pose a threat. As a prey animal, birds have to be VERY alert to changes like that in their environments.

Sorry to hear that the birds don't seem to like you either cjenny... Myself I guess I have always had a natural "bird magnetism". My mom used to tell me stories of how when I was 5 I used to get close enough to pet the wild canadian geese that visited our pond. So maybe birds DO have a universal attitude towards some people?

It's a shame that people don't research pets (ANY pets) before they purchase them on a whim, because they are "pretty" or because they might learn to talk. Its because of this that there are so many unwanted pets in the world. I wish that I was in a place that where I could have my dream aviary, because I would take that bird off your hands in a moment... I really hope you do the right thing and find him a good home.



And that's what kills me.  Birds CAN be wonderful pets - but they can only be as good as the owner they have, because they require extra understanding and special care.  They're NOT domestic animals like dogs or cats.

It's a budgie, i.e. a "garden variety" parakeet.

Status: offline 		Suggest getting a cat. A big one. Like a cougar or something.

That should put the parrot in its place. Or in the cougar's mouth.

Either way, problem solved.

All you have to worry about then, is getting rid of the cougar.

A grizzly bear in your home should do that OK.

Status: offline 		My neighbors have a bird, and they take wonderful care of her. The bird has two huge expensive cages but still it screams so loudly. Once it gets started it will scream non stop for quite a while. It is incredibly annoying.

PHboy and don't go get a fish tank either. I thought fish would be so low maintenance! Wrong!!
Fish end up being really expensive, it can be impossible to find feeder fish, even with 2 expensive filters water quality and control is a constant battle. The tanks weigh a ton so as far as decorating you are stuck, unless you want to empty it almost all the way out to move it. I love my fish but if I had to do it all over again. No way!!

Funnily enough the easiest and most low maintenance pet is my dog. :)

Here was part of my logic- I might have to go into a high rise. Such would not allow dogs.

The scream is something you have to hear yourself. Unless you ever heard a scream rant for 1/2 hour- it is hard to fully comprehend the irritation of it,.

Ah well to bad. I'm really found of monk parakeets. I used to love watching the wild ones feed while I ate lunch in college.

I agree.  I've had birds since 1985.. I love the large birds.  Yes,  they are very intelligent and do get bored!  Or they want something different to eat.   They should not be just set in a cage to look at because they're "pretty" 
 
Chances are the bird is "cage sour" from previous owners.

Status: offline 		In my home are twelve parrots of differing sizes.4 breeding snakes,5 rodents of two differing types,a senegal chameleon(named felix)several house gecko,a dog and I`m certain I`m missing somebody.Be glad if the parrot doesnt talk.Sometimes my home sounds like a family reunion with the birds all squawking and talking to one another,and calling me.At night though,the house geckoes"chirp"to one another.Thats kind of nice,in a forlorn sort of way.
