I just realized that my profile picture is of me holding an ill gull that wandered up to me.It responded well to reiki and was better by the time of my vacation .After she was released,the cabin owner said she would sit on the eave of the roof l9ike she was waiting for me....alwayanimals always did seem to find their way to me.Thats what happens when your`e Irish.

The header to this topic reminded me of a quote from the Kama Sutra about the inadvisability of keeping a parrot in one's bedroom. Parrots being mimics are likely to pick up what they hear and repeat it at the most inoppertune moment. I don't own a parrot myself (my apt. has strict rules about pets.) The one neighbor that I have who has a dog needs the animal in case he needs help (he's in a wheelchair), and even to have a cat requires homeowner insurance. Still the advice may be old but it's still sensible advice. Don't say anything round a parrot that you wouldn't want repeated in front of others. :D

This is why i wont EVER own a bird. i doubt i could handle it and on top of that i heard their potty has diseasish stuff.

Fish end up being really expensive, it can be impossible to find feeder fish, even with 2 expensive filters water quality and control is a constant battle. The tanks weigh a ton so as far as decorating you are stuck, unless you want to empty it almost all the way out to move it. I love my fish but if I had to do it all over again.

ahhhhhhhhh i love my fish tank. I got a larger fish tank for Xmas from my mother - which was very nice as 4 years ago while i was out of town she "accidently" gave away my fish, tank, supplies, chemicals..... everything i had been working and building up on. It can be hard, but right now my little beggers are doing great - ) It IS expensive though! Just start slow and work your collection (of stuff) up. I think i like it because its just so peaceful and pretty.

i get along really well with animals too. Cats for some reason, follow me. Stray cats, my cats, any cat......i go for a walk and i've usually got a cat following me. Since i own 3 at the moment (and they dun like strays) i have 3 that follow me.

There is of course always the odd man out. Generally speaking they love me and i love them. i've picked stray animals up off the road, taken them home and found homes for em.

Guinea pigs are great too! My old one used to literally talk to me. Cows talk to me too = )

Have a dwarf male hamster that's real cool, a BIG ol male cat and an old 1/2 blind bitch who's partially deaf too. The hamster & cat are mine, they almost get along, hehe...

Anyways, I digress... I had a big ol bird (pet of a ex bf's brother) who attacked my head (no hat or glasses on) and was chewing on my ear lobe (I had earrings in but took them out quickly) and when I went to save my bleeding lobes the bird attacked my finger. We had spent the night over there and birds were in cage but when morning came they were set loose and that's when the attack began. I ran out of the house and refused to go back inside, we were all going out anyways, have never been back to their house.

Let's squash that rumor right there.

A bird's droppings only is "diseasish" if the bird in question is sick. If your pet bird is healthy and well cared for, then their droppings are no more diseasish than your own waste is when you're healthy.

Sure - you'll want to keep their cage clean by changing the paper and scrubbing the pan regularly. Of course you don't want to let droppings build up for long periods of time. However, they're NOT inherently more disease-ridden just because their birds.
