I still say the people most qualified to run for President are too damn smart to run for President.

Status: offline 		I like him but he can’t get elected. I like the fact that he actually thinks about a problem or question first before he twists or filters it through the political and money corruption machine.

He cannot get elected for legitimate reasons, lack of experience, or unfortunately the bad reason that too many will not vote for him because of his race. The election is going to be close again and while I hope the race thing would be very small, it probably could make a difference in enough states.

I doubt that. I don't think this country is ready for a female president. I am not against it, but I don't think Hillary is going to be the first. Secondly, I tend to agree with toservez about Obama, there is the race factor,that unfortunately a lot of people cannot get pass, and then there is his inexperience we have to consider.

Oh my!  I have so much I could say about this.  You Are RIGHT!  But not only that, there are a lot of very qualified people out there that couldn't raise the money needed to run for president and win.  Think of the wasted talent.  Somewhere along the lines money got confused with free speech.  Well "it ain't free if ya gotta pay for it"...ya know?  Do something about the money.....and you will do something about bringing fresh blood into our government.  Do something about the money and those that get elected will be beholden to those that elected him, and this time it won't be the highest bidder.  Do something about the money, and perhaps the public faith in government could be re-earned.  Do something about the money!

What sort of qualifications do you need to be president? For all the Presidents with experience, there aren't many worth remembering. One should look at the company he keeps and what sort of advisers he would be likely to choose.

Well we got us a two term president with neither, so that works out pretty well.  Of course, in his case it is set off by no qualifications whatsoever.

I didn't say experience, I said qualifications.  Intelligence, fortitude, common sense, selflessness, not drunk on their own hype, understands economics, conservation, history, competent military comprehension, and is a leader / statesman first, politician last.

Your prediction about a Clinton/Obama ticket may not be too far off.  I heard one of the so called "experts" say it on CNN or Fox the other night.

Status: offline 		Would someone explain to me what Obama has done that warrents as much attention as he is getting?

I am against anyone for president that is inside D.C. I fully believe that we need leadership from outside the capital that might have some kind of idea what really going on in America. Too often D.C. gets sort of disconnected from the rest of the country. Republicans havn't got a clue what Americans want, and it's obvious Democrats havn't a clue either. They are two weeks into their control of the congress and they are already fumbling the ball. You elect someone like Hilary or Obama or McCain, you will only keep the current status quo. Nothing will change.

Status: offline 		Actually that is why I like Obama, he is NOT an insider... He is very different in many ways.
The things that have impressed me most about this man is that he speaks his mind, he does not follow hardline with the party, he does his speaches without someone giving him notecards to read off of or a teleprompter, and if an idea strikes him while giving a speach he can go off on that tangent and speak on it and then return to the original speach without losing a single train of thought.

He is a brilliant man with a strong agenda, and he is fresh, young, and not spoiled by the DC bureaucrats. A man like Obama could be what we need in Washington. He could do a lot for this country, or he could be a disaster, I would say watch him and make up your own mind. So far I am impressed. I still have not decided. I am very much an independent when it comes to choosing who I vote for. I have never voted a straight party ticket and I never will. I have many times voted for people that did not stand a chance of winning simply because I believed in what they stood for not because I believed my vote was wasted.

I at this time if I had to choose today would vote for Obama, but there is still a lot of time before the election and by then who knows what may have happened.

Status: offline 		There are good points to being an insider and good points to being an outsider. 

An insider knows knows the "ropes."  He or she knows who to align themselves with in order to get things done for their constituency.  Heck, they even know where the best resturants are!

An outsider believes that maybe aligning themselves with any particular person or ideology is not a good idea because it represents "business as usual."   Outsiders usually get elected on the fact that they sense that the public is tired of "business as usual." 

If the recent election is any gage, America is in need of new leadership......again.

I definitely agree with you about the qualifications question, afterall Joe the butcher should be able to run for president as long as he is born here and of the age of 35 he would qualify.

If you look at the people that Obama associates with, his credibility would falter quickly.  The likes of Richard Daley, John Stroger, and Blagoiovich (spelling); anybody from Cook County Illinois understand the way politics there work.  Obama is very charismatic, young, and intelligent which helped him get elected in a statewide election; but once the underlying connections and scandals come out he cannot win a national election.  At least in my opinion.

I can think of a few Presidents that don't have any of the qualities you list, starting with Bush.

   I don'y have any idea as to who would be the presidential candidate or the VP.  Right now the contry is hungry for a BIG change.
 
And right now we have had 6 years of Bush. m He didn't have a whole lot of smart ideas.. his "experience" was n the form of "connections".  Obama has a lot on his plate.  He'd be making a lot of "firsts" and therefore I feel he would have to be more than ethical and concencious.  My mind is very open about and for him.  I'm watching the whole program unfold :) 
 
The the irritation has already started.. Some person did an artical about him and put his first name as "Osama". not Obama.  And a big  gasp that his middle name is Hussain. Oh for pete's sake.  Grow up America!  This type of game playing is getting old.
