Hi Sly,

Have been away for a couple of days; only catching up on the forums today.

It’s all about power, who has it and who doesn’t. Surely you know the old saw that absolute power corrupts absolutely! That is why I would have an issue with any Master thinking they are a god. Too many ways for them to confuse that line between reality and fantasy.

Show me a Master that can walk on water, and maybe I would have to re-examine my beliefs.

Namaste, Sir Dominic

Sir, Master, Daddy...

To me these are names that represent a person that has earned my total respect and trust. It's similar to me being called pet, sweetie, pumpkin, darling, baby girl, daddy's lil slut, etc, etc etc.

They are also "terms of endearment" which carry dominant or submissive undertones. You could take the names/titles away however and i'd still know my place. Names/titles don't make a person who they are.

As far back as i can remember i've had a nick name of sorts that was bestowed upon me by my friends, family, dominant, etc etc. In one way or another as i grew up my friends would always come up with some sort of nick name for each other. It's just one of those things that seems to fit and work.

Now with that in mind i've also found situations where calling a person Sir or Ma'am is polite protocol.
This also can be found within our society.. like the court system where the title "your honor" is given to the judge.
In situations like this it's more of a title where you would be acknowledging that you understand and respect the position that person holds.

In the end it can be a show of affection, an understanding of position, a belief in that person, or a little of everything.. to each their own...

None of the below is criticism or statement, it is the OP's observation and reiteration.

D/s is a fantasy based reality filled with slaves and masters and mistresses and lords and kings and maidens and daddys and pretend little girls. The titles and fantasy are important to many people and that is fine, they are fun and hot and a way to express ones individuality.

My original post was tweaking the people here who take themselves and D/s so very seriously. The titles and fantasy are important to many people and that is fine, there is no reason to be defensive about it, this is supposed to be fun. My point was that there is an element of pretend here, the titles are pretend titles for Christ sake, and if you cannot find some fun and humor in what it is that we do than I worry for your sanity and I fear for your partner.

In my opinion no one is owned, no one is property, and no one has no rights in a D/s relationship. I have yet to read a post defending this position that is anything but attempts to bend and twist reality which in itself goes far to prove the unreality of it all, and yet I know this debate which has been discussed ad nauseam will continue here, of that I have no doubt.

In my opinion D/s can be used as an excuse to have a "relationship" with someone on weekends or over the phone or online, an excuse for misogyny, an excuse to control others when one cannot control oneself and an excuse for laziness and unwillingness to control ones own destiny. Wrapping abuse or self neglect in the veil of D/s does not make it anything other than what it is.

In my opinion D/s can be used as a way to express and explore who and what one is and how one relates to the world around him/her, a way to express emotions without conditions, a way to explore sexuality without barriers judgment or preconditioned societal taboo restrictions, and a way to find some control in a world out of control.

Oh yeah It's fucking fun too.

yup.. they are just  pretend... just like "Girlfriend, Boyfriend, Husband, Wife, Teacher, Student, Lover, Partner, Doctor, Policeman"  Yup Titles are just pretent for christ sakes.

My point is... there is an element of Reality... regardless of the titles that are used.

I have no doubt.. I also have no doubt that you there are some like yourself.. that wish to project their own reality of the world on to all others.

nothing like the "ONE TRUE WAY"....  and yours is grounded in Reality.. so that makes yours right... and anyone that disagrees with you as living in a fantasy world.  Of course.. then again .. your own Reality just might be a fantasy.

Yup.. ... I agree.

It also can be an excuse to live a happy life with another.. an excuse to exercise aspects of a persons inner nature that give feelings and thoughts of happiness and full-fillment....

Oh but it really is just a bunch of excuses and fantasy... where is the reasons and reality?

oh come on now.. that just sounds like fantasy... next thing you going be telling me is that people are going to use funny titles to express there place in this fantasy world they have created for themselves.

Oh that is indeed a Fantasy... the reality is that it sucks

You don't have to understand it.  At the most you may just be able to offer your appreciation for other people's choices.

For us it has little to do with worship.  It is a Lord of the Manor title for someone who has been knighted.  In our house his word is law and that is the reality that matters to alandra and I.

Knight's kyra

kyra - the reason that I refer to My Lord as such is the same as what you have stated.  Thank you for putting it so eloquently.

SlyStone -> RE: Good Lord (2/10/2007 11:19:19 AM)

I have no idea what you are trying to say pretend knight, maybe if you try again, only in english this time.

cjenny -> RE: Good Lord (2/10/2007 11:25:27 AM)

Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah
There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee
Oh sha sha - we got to live together
I am no better and neither are you
We are the same whatever we do
You love me you hate me you know me and then
You can't figure out the bag l'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah
There is a long hair that doesn't like the short hair
For bein' such a rich one that will not help the poor one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee
Oh sha sha-we got to live together
There is a yellow one that won't accept the black one
That won't accept the red one that won't accept the white one
And different strokes for different folks

edit: adding that the lyrics are from a sly & the family stone song, coupled with the words i felt it very appropriate *for nearly everywhere actually lol*
