Well, I do not know how most people define themselves as an expert.
And I agree with a novelist that just because they found a publisher does not make them an expert. I now have two books published and that certainly does not make me an expert writer. I claim an expert at writing based off the reviews of my book from both the professional reviewers and the readers.
The others that I claim expert at are things I have been doing for more than ten years, and in some cases for more than 20 years. In some cases I would rather not have even admitted I was an expert in knowledge on some of the items... lol... Role-Playing-Games for example. I began playing Dungeons and Dragons before it was called Advanced Dungeons and Dragons and was available in a single box smaller than a cereal box with three books all smaller than comic books, it came with one of each kind of die, and the corners of the die all broke off within a few weeks because the plastic had not been perfected yet. It also came with a notepad and a pencil. There were no character sheet designs yet.
I also played just about every new form of roleplaying game that became available, many no longer even exist. Tunnels and Trolls, ElfQuest, and many more. One, I cannot even remember the name had Ducks as the primary species of player character. There was another based on Michael Moorcock's Stormbringer series, and a lot more. So I think I can claim expert on RRG's.
Chatting, I began back when you had local BBS's and had to log onto the internet through a college connection. So I can claim expert on that.
However, most other things I claimed average or beginner on even when I might be able to claim higher than that because as far as I am concerned I still have a lot to learn even though I may have five or seven or ten years of experience, I just have not had enough consistent experience to claim anything higher, and in the lifestyle I do not feel you can truly claim an expert in anything easily, until you have truly mastered all their is to know about something, or most of it.
So claiming to be an expert in spanking, you had better know at least 75% of every instrument to be used and have one in your possession, know how to use it in almost every possible way, and every possible position. Not just OTK, but in stocks, strapped over benches, and bedboards, and many other ways. Kneeling, standing, on St. Andrew's Crosses, while suspended, etc.. hundreds of positions, hundreds of methods, and to claim expert you should have at least done 75% of all possible ways and know the rest.
I do not think it is probable to claim expert in a lifestyle activity at a young age for you just do not have the experience to even know all the possibilities that that activity has available to you at that age, there is too much to study and learn and it takes a great deal of time and effort to become expert in that field. I am not saying it is impossible. There are savants in any field of study, why not BDSM activities too, just it is unlikely.
