I have always had issues with people in the lifestyle referring to me as Sir.  Although, I learned a few years ago how effective it is to refer to everybody with a polite honorific, so I have learned to tone down my dislike for the phrase being applied to me.

Nevertheless, I will generally ask people to refer to me by name unless we are in a dynamic.

Sinergy

I was raised to use Sir and Ma'am with folks I don't know, if not Mr.X or Ms.X.  When I moved north I was amazed at how many folks really disliked those two words.  I once had a potential submissive, who wasn't getting the attention he though he should be getting, get quite upset with me when I used the word sir while emailing him.  He was convinced it was some kind of sideways , passive-aggressive slight suggesting he wasn't submissive enough.  That was the farthest thing from my mind when I wrote it, but it certainly helped me to make up my mind about spending any more time with that person (not).

Of course if someone tells me they don't care for it, and I can remember who actually said it, then I won't use it.  However, my memory isn't what it used to be.

the only phrases I dislike hearing are ones that come from the mouths of my yongins; and they can be very simple everday phrases

"Don't be stupid" is one that I do not tolerate from them
"He/she is such an idiot" or "what an idiot"
"talk to the hand" this one they know better than to ever try on me but I do not tolerate them using it with each other either

just to name a few

A phone call from my adult children, opening line "aaaahhhhhh moooooooommmmm, are you busy?" or "please don't be mad"

Because I know that even if I am not busy I wish I was, so busy that I had not answered the phone. And if they ask me not to be angry, I will be very soon.

From a doctor or dentist -
"This is going to be slightly uncomfortable "
means it will be so painful you will be choking back tears and curses

From your parents -
"I am only saying this for your own good "
means they still want to control your life, no matter what your age

From a female friend -
"Does these jeans make my ass look fat?"
means you need to stroke their ego

From a male friend -
"ugh, uhuhuh, whatever!...."
means he is watching the TV or playing video games
or on the computer

From a soon to be previous partner -
"It's not you, it's me...blah blah blah...I need to be me....blah blah blah"
means they were playing you for a fool

Not true Amaros! [8D] I actually sat someone who'd been walking around me with a hostile attitude and said "We need to talk.  Now tell me what it is that is on your mind, and why you think it's okay to be making everyone around you miserable;"   I let him start and say everything he needed, before I spoke...  Still didn't turn out well for him, but I did give him the oportunity to be heard bitching.    M

"I love you like a brother."

this always brings to mind three questions:

1: Have you ever seen Deliverance?

2: Don't you know i'm from Georgia?

3: Don't you think that statement would have had more of a punch before you screamed out your father's name while i was schtupping you in the arse?

ummmmm....never has anything annoyed more than someone who says "ummmmm" before every sentence. ummm...it alerts me to the fact the next words out of that person's mouth are going to be just as interesting as "ummmmmm"

"Between you and I . . . " always irks me.

And I particularly detest "[fill in the blank] sucks," which seems to insult women and gay men.

Mine is alright mate i really can't stand that one or people who constantly swear,as this just shows a lack of intelligence,on there behalf. But what about you now please what phrases do you just detest please do tell us.My very best wishes from Paul.

I think incessant cursing may show a lack of decorum in certain circumstances or even what some may consider a lack of class, I don't think it's a measure of someone's level of intelligence.  Just my two cents.  (which by the way is probably the statement that I hear around here that irritates me for a second or two).

I also try (though on occasion I slip) not to ever say the following phrases:

I hate such and such.
Such and such is killing me.
Im dying for such and such.

We use these terms lightly... such as....

Man, my back is killing me today.

Im dying for a piece of chocolate.

 I hate rainy days..

Im a big believer in our words become our truth, so I try to catch myself in these types of negatives that can so easily slip out.  I also tend to correct people in my real time life when they use these terms.  I think it irritates them.

"The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."
