ORIGINAL: Sinergy I have always had issues with people in the lifestyle referring to me as Sir. Although, I learned a few years ago how effective it is to refer to everybody with a polite honorific, so I have learned to tone down my dislike for the phrase being applied to me. Nevertheless, I will generally ask people to refer to me by name unless we are in a dynamic. Sinergy I was raised to use Sir and Ma'am with folks I don't know, if not Mr.X or Ms.X. When I moved north I was amazed at how many folks really disliked those two words. I once had a potential submissive, who wasn't getting the attention he though he should be getting, get quite upset with me when I used the word sir while emailing him. He was convinced it was some kind of sideways , passive-aggressive slight suggesting he wasn't submissive enough. That was the farthest thing from my mind when I wrote it, but it certainly helped me to make up my mind about spending any more time with that person (not). Of course if someone tells me they don't care for it, and I can remember who actually said it, then I won't use it. However, my memory isn't what it used to be.
