ORIGINAL: ProScatman If I can interject something here, I noticed the subject of Pro before a Domm'mes name implies they are in for the money, because they are that good--to be able to charge. On the other hand, I have used this "Pro" to imply skill, and knowledge. Nobody has ever asked me what my "Tribute" would be, and I wouldn't accept one if offered. But, I am now truly in a quandry not knowing how many just take for granted I ask for a tribute? There is a big difference in doing something you have done for years, and have become good at it and injoy the sensual nature of it; rather than trying to make a buck! From the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language: pro·fes·sion·al Pronunciation Key (pr-fsh-nl) adj. 1. 1. Of, relating to, engaged in, or suitable for a profession: lawyers, doctors, and other professional people. 2. Conforming to the standards of a profession: professional behavior. 2. Engaging in a given activity as a source of livelihood or as a career: a professional writer. 3. Performed by persons receiving pay: professional football. 4. Having or showing great skill; expert: a professional repair job. So, the term can be used either way. Generally, imx, the term professional refers to someone who gets paid to do something, while an amateur does it for free. That's not necessarily a reflection of skill level - the Olympics used to be restricted to amateurs (no professionals allowed - no one was allowed to compete who got paid for doing their particular sport) and they were generally the best of the best. Figure skaters, for example, used to "retire" from the amateur competitive circuit and go on professional tours. Generally their skill level waned and they weren't expected to be as good as they had been when they were amateurs. When i first saw your name, I figured that the "pro" part must refer to something other than professional, like maybe a local abbreviation for Providence or something. I couldn't imagine that someone would claim to be an expert at shitting! Or that someone would pay them to do that! It takes all kinds, I guess.
