anyone but al gore LOL he had some interesting charts. What i would like to knwo is what really are the long term issues in as much as killing the planet. 100 million people is a lot of people that would have to move inlamd, i suppose land would be at a premium.] Pollution can be an interesting thing. deceiving. i once had one of those old rambler pacers. i kept it well tuned up and all. it had a catalytic converter on it to supposedly clean up the exhaust. Well being in an area where they salt the roads frequently in winter the pipe rotted and the converter was ready to fall off so i took the torch cut it off and welded in a straight pipe in its place. Figured i would go in and see if they flunk me on the emissions testing. Something surprising happened. i took the test and i was .01% of the no pass limits. they flunked me on an equipment violation. no convertor and of course i argued that i passed the emissions test with rediculous colors. i went into my records and got the previous years emmissions testing to find out "all the readings were higher. They were clost to 1 - 1.5% of the limit. So i was pissed and i fought them, threatened to expose them, they gave me a special waiver so i did not have to put a convertor on the car after that. They also changed the way they do things, now they check to make sure you have one before they test the car! welcome too government. true story! So that begs the question if some of the pollution devices are really doing what they are intended.

LOL it makes me wonder if the government is not rying to heat the place up as could be seen by the results of those tests, my car that is! i didnt make a debate type statement either way really but you know me i am really easy to drag into a debate...

The first link is 12 years old, that is an eon ago in academic years. It is also produced from a Stanford study. I will have to look at the researchers who worked on it, but Stanford is known for its ties to big business, and Condi Rice was a professor there as well as an oil exec. You have to look at who funds the studies. I would not find a study funded by oil men to be very illuminating or unbiased. I have studied these issues for a couple of years. If you think increased incidents of disease, mass extinctions, and rising sea levels wiping out entire cultures is a good thing, well you are in for a treat! The second article I have to really look at.

Al Gore? It just goes to show what a few decades of pot smoking will do to your brain. They should have used him in that commercial "this is your brain on drugs."

Haven't seen the vids, Dial Up too slow, but I just have a feeling that when viewed as a machine the Earth's weather system is for too powerful to be influenced by puny humans. What we are good at is killing one another or manufacturing automobiles. I quoted before "something" I read to the effect that the rate of change of the INCREASE in average temperatures has not increased over the last 100 years. If human activity is the cause of global warming then this is a must ie it has got to have happened. Any good Googlers know where to look to find that kind of stat. With regard to catalytic converters on cars, the amusing thing is that when they are most needed, ie when the engine is warming up, they do NOTHING.. Ooh no I forgot, they make interfering do gooders feel good... ABOUT THEMSELVES lol Another fact, Car engines on cold start are designed to "run rich", causing increases in harmful emissions , thus doubly exposing the weakness of cat. converters ! Realists 1 Dogooders 0 Unless of course you make "cats"

Not to mention all the nasty metals that go into producing a catalytic convertor, and the sulphides emitted. As for electric/hybrid cars, best not go there!

Then we have unleaded Petrol which I understand cause engines to emit a carcinogenic effluent not present when Leaded is used. I havent "sauced" anything so I dont know what the effluent is lol Dogooders/Save the Worlders -1 lol As for taking lead out of paint, well never let a bird shit on your car , corrodes the paint,so I am told. Save the Worlders -2. Ooh err err how about traffic calming measures, called Road Humps in the UK, cause increases in idling , deceleration/accleration thus uncreasimg the car emissions which has been measured by opponents of the Humps, again, no "sauce" Save the Worlders -3

Sorry julia but if you think Al Gore is any more credible than any of those names or business's that you listed...ummmmmmmmmm. I will not state that what we do as humans is not the best course for this planet. There are a great deal many things we could do better like instead of just burying wastes, incenerate..etc. But we are currently 10,000 yrs post the 4th major ice age if I'm not mistaken. Humans were not around during those in an number worth mentioning. They happened regardless of humans, and they will continue to happen regardless of humans. I am also sorry but I do not feel as a human that I am some omnipotent being with such powers to do such things on such a grand scale. Mother nature Will do what she needs to do to flick us off her back when she feels the need to do it. Just as she's always done. We can't even really explain the Why of hurricanes or tornado's. Yes we can give some scientific data as to whats going on when it occurs or what conditions are present but we don't have a clue as to what causes those certain conditions, can't predict when they will happen, or have the foggiest idea as how to prevent them. But you wan't to tell me that we have such great scientific evidence that we can precisely tell what will cause a global warming? Sorry..just alittle to far fetched for me. You really want to do something about these things, then do it. (You) in general. Make it a law that only 1 car per person..period. Stop relying on fossil fuel..period. Stop allowing the destruction of the rain forests to make way for cattle ranches..require more efficient homes be built. We have alot of the technology to get along without doing such things but they won't because it's inconvient and they don't make money. It takes people with money to put together these movies, these research studies, and money from the same sort of places to refute whats being said so where this information regarding pro's and cons comes from really is on even ground as far as I am concerned there. The truth is getting rather too inconvenient now even for those that just want to earn a quick dollar. Pointless earning a quick dollar if you can't spend it. However, there is still too much belief in new technologies coming over the horizon like the 7th cavalry or that markets can solve the problem. We need to modify our life styles and not consume as much as we do and if we plan for that, things don't have to be as uncomfortable as waiting for a crisis and then responding inadequately on reflex. I've not much faith in the powers that be. There are people who will consume as if their life depended on it even if they knew their consumption would spin the world in the morning.

The sun is at the height of one of its cycles so we know that the earth should be going through a warm phase but even with that taken into account the sums don't add up. Actually I don't think Mars is warming up. Someone linked an article in one of the threads disputing this.

It was decent.....but I'd also chalk it up as somewhat self-promotional for reasons not yet known [8\|] The problem I have with the subject matter is, I've rarely heard any of the proponents {here} tow the Malthusian line - But hey, that's just my opinion..... I'd love to see the population {eventually} shrink by 70 percent. No doubt it would be good for the planet. - R
