Having worn glasses since age 10, so thats nigh on 30 years.... - dont go cheap and get some that suit you. If you need powerful lenses then go for smaller frames and ultra thin lenses, so they wont look like coke bottles and wont break your nose under the weight. - check out the new plastic memory frames; you can stomp them, bend them, do whatever you like to them short of steamrollering them, and they wont break. - get a glasses repair kit with those tiny little screwdrivers - you will need them at some point - you will want to wear sunglasses at some point, so check on getting a free or half price pair of prescription sunglasses with your main purchase. Ordinary sunglasses wont be any good for you anymore! It also handy to have a second pair, in case you put down the main pair and then cant see to find the buggers! - when you take them off, make sure you make a mental note as to where they are - glasses tend to steam up when you come from the cold into the warm. To solve this, smear a tiny drop of washing up liquid across the lenses and polish it in. - you can swim in your glasses, but unless you get one of those straps to hold them on, you'll lose them at the bottom of the sea or pool - you will need to clean them frequently; you would never believe how many eyebrow hairs and bits of skin will get trapped behind the lenses (its not a good look) Laser surgery - worth checking out apparently, but several medical conditions are contra-indications (including arthritis in my case). You also need to test consistently on eye tests for some time before they will do it - ie your eyesight needs to be consistently bad and not likely to deteriorate further after the surgery, which would put you back where you were. Contact lenses - an utter pain in the arse to everyone I know who has them! E
